A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, and here we are at J. Did you sing the Alphabet song when you first read the beginning? I did. Anyway, J is for Jessica Jones! We’re nearly halfway through the alphabet now.
Sidenote, I love this image they used for the show. It’s so cool. As you can see, this is yet another Netflix backed show. What can I say, they have some amazing shows. You guys may or may not know, that I am a fan of superhero shows. I watched Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl, but I lost interest. Jessica Jones is only one season so far, so it still holds my interest. Plus, it’s pretty damn good.
Here’s the premise. Jessica Jones is a Marvel superhero. She exists in the same universe as the MCU, as well as the other Marvel shows on Netflix, like Daredevil and Luke Cage. Her powers are mostly about superhuman strength, really fast healing, and in the comic books she can fly, but we’ve yet to see that in the show. She used to be all positive and went through that superhero phase, but that all changed when she met Kilgrave, aka Purple Man. He is a messed up gentleman with the scary power of persuasion. Anything he says, you will do, no matter what. Which is always a terrifying thought. After a while, she breaks free from his power, but she has already done a lot under his power. She now works as Private Investigator.
This show gets pretty dark and twisted. It deals with topics like PTSD, assault, and even touches on rape. Rory and I got sucked into this show, we couldn’t wait for work to end, so we could go home and keep watching it. It’s so good, and the acting from the two leads is amazing! I don’t normally get into dramas, but I’m a sucker for all things superhero. Plus, the show has an awesome female leading lady, I was interested. Also, David Tennant.
Also, can I just say how much I love the opening theme. It really adds to that whole dark, gritty, neo-noir feel and I just love it.
Anyway, here are some quotes:
It’s surprisingly hard to find gifs. Okay, let’s look at some of the main characters.
Jessica Jones (played by Krysten Ritter)
Our leading lady. She suffers from PTSD due to her time with Kilgrave, she’s now just trying to rebuild her life and carry on as a Private Investigator. At her core, she’s a good person, you just got to get though a few layers of sarcasm and rudeness first.
Luke Cage (played by Mike Colter)
Jessica’s love interest. He also has super strength, but also the added feature of unbreakable skin. My favourite scene with him is in the bar when someone hits him on the head with a bottle, it just breaks on him and he rolls his eyes. He’s a lot more on the quiet side, and likes to keep things close to his chest. He also has his own show, which is also a good watch.
Patricia (Tricia) Walker (Played by Rachael Taylor)
A former child star, Jessica’s foster sister and best friend. Tricia knows about Jessica’s powers, and was the one to encourage her to become a superhero. She is also a radio host, and has been teaching herself self-defence.
Kilgrave (Played by David Tennant)
Kilgrave was born Kevin Thompson, and as a child was subjected to experiments which led him to developing powers. Kilgrave doesn’t see himself as horrible (but he is), and because of his powers, often doesn’t see things as his fault. He blames his past, his parents, and everyone else. He is played really convincingly by Tennant, which is a big part of why I liked the show.
There are other characters of the show, but I feel that these are the core four and really make the show what it is. Have you guys seen this show? Let me know what you thought of it, I’m keen for season 2, but it’s not till next year.
That’s it for J. K will be coming up next Tuesday.
