Beautiful Is Tag

Cassi nominated me for this tag! Thanks again lady!

Before we get into this, I need to share the opening from the original post of this tag, created by Kiya over at Flawed Silence.

We often feel ugly.

Because we’re too diverse, too unique, too incredible to be conformed to societies constructions of beautiful.

And it shouldn’t be that way.

Everyone has beauty within them.

It just takes people with an open heart to see it within you. People who don’t allow superficial ideas to cloud judgement.

I see art as a metaphor for beauty. To me art is about perception. People either fall in love with it or not. They appreciate it or not. Try to understand it or see a blank. However, we should all try and be part of a society where our perception isn’t skewed by appearance. But by morals, and character.

That’s why you are beautiful.

I see beauty within you for who you are as an individual.

Beauty shouldn’t be restrained and tied down to physical appearance. Ever.

You’re all beautiful to me.

Rules:

  1. Link back to this post in your introduction so nominees can get a brief context of the tag. In particular the opening of this post.
  2. Thank your nominee.
  3. Answer the questions (these are some difficult questions)
  4. Tag anyone and let them know – no limit on numbers
  5. Oooh tag it as beautifulistag so I can read them all!
  6. Comment I am beautiful at the end of your post
  7. SMILE BEAUTIFUL

Questions

What is your definition of beautiful?

I never know how to answer this question. Part of me draws a blank, another part either wants to make a joke or say something weird. I’m gonna go with beauty is as a feeling. That feeling is ‘wow’. It can be a person, makeup, an outfit, a view, a thing, an animal. You get what I mean?

What do you find beauty in (abstract or concrete ideas)?

Everything? Little things. Big things. People. Clothes. Environment. Nature. The sky. Comes with being a reckless optimist. I find most things beautiful.

When you think of beautiful, what are the first four things or words that come to mind?

I mentioned them all before 😀

A song, quote or lyric that you think sums up beauty perfectly

Admire someone else’s beauty without questioning your own. Picture from here.

Image result for admire someone else's beauty without

Tell us seven reasons why you are beautiful

This is surprisingly hard to answer. I’m pretty happy and confident in myself. There are aspects that I would like to improve, or am insecure about. But I’ve been doing well in being confident in myself, how I look, how I present myself, and my life in general is pretty good. That’s all I can think of.

Tell us about a time someone made you feel beautiful. How did it make you feel?

Other than my wedding? I don’t know, to be honest, I just get a thrill when someone (friend or random) gives you a random little compliment. Like if it’s complimenting what you said, did or even what you’re wearing. It makes my day and gives me a boost. I try to do this more now, even though as someone shy it goes against my instinct. But sometimes I’ll randomly say “I like your shoes” or “I like your eyeliner”, and I get a happy “Thanks!” in response. Also if it’s clothes or accessories related, then I normally also find out where they get it from. That whole random support system of compliments is just beautiful in itself.

If you had to draw beautiful, how would it look?

Again, these questions kind of throw me. Beautiful is a concept, so trying to make it more concrete baffles me most of the time. Drawing beautiful to me can mean like really good artists, or I guess you could just look at Pinterest and find some nice typography for  the word Beautiful. Pinterest is awesome for that stuff.

When was the last time you highlighted someone’s beauty to them?

I mentioned this before actually. But the other day at work, I mentioned that I liked their hair. They recently dyed it back to brown as they’d had it blonde for a while but wanted to go back to their roots.

Nominees:

Feel no pressure to take part, I just had you on my mind!

This tag had some not so easy, and sometimes a little confusing questions to answer. But I gave it my best 🙂

I am beautiful.

August Favourites

August Favourites

Four months left in the year guys! What??

Movies

My Neighbour Totoro

I watched this just a few days ago, but I’ve been meaning to watch it for sooo long. Totoro wasn’t in it as much as I thought it would be, but he is so cute and weird. Also, catbus.

Image result for catbus

The Defenders

Okay, so this isn’t a movie, it’s a show, but I did enjoy it! I was a huge fan of Jessica Jones, so I was looking forward to this. The show wasn’t perfect, but it was a lot of fun. If you’re into the superhero genre, then this is worth a watch!

Music

Bad at Love – Halsey

I’ve been listening to a lot of Halsey lately. This has been another favourite! I just love the hook, and I can almost sing along to the whole thing.

Pumpin Blood – NoNoNo

Another older song, which I recently found while going down a YouTube hole. It’s so peppy and the whistle part never gets out of my head now.

Books

The Handmaid’s Tale

12961964

I have been recommended to read this book by a number of friends, both real and blogging. I got sucked into the story, and it was definitely harrowing at times. I recommend the series as well, but I did enjoy the book just a little more.

Games

Moon Hunters

Image result for moon hunters

This is a co-op game that Rory and I have played a few times. It’s a myth based action game. Basically, following along the story, you guys work together to clear your chosen area before the third night when you have to fight the leader of the Sun Cult. The graphics are gorgeous, and at the end you get a constellation named after you depending on how you played. I once got to be a “Spider” where I had a whole army of spies, and the other time I was a “Throne”, where I got to confident and arrogant so I got turned into a chair.

Something New

Thanks to Anni (and Zoella), I found out about an app called 1 Second Everyday. Basically, you film for a second everyday. Then you can compile them all together. Anni shared a video where Zoella used the app for a whole year. It’s really cool to see it all together. My life isn’t as exciting as a YouTuber, but I have been having so much fun filming everyday. I’ve compiled it recently as I started it early this month, and for each second, I remember where I was and what was happening when I filmed it. Makes me realize again how fast time goes by!

What are some of your favourites from this past month?

If We Were Having Coffee #4

Another round of catch ups over coffee!

Except that I’m having a milkshake, cause I don’t feel like a coffee as I write this!

If we were having coffeeI’d talk about how fast and slow this month has passed. Fast in that I can barely remember what happened this past month. It hasn’t been a memorable one. For that reason, it’s also felt slow, cause the days itself dragged. My work is getting busy as we have lots of new settling babies, so my days have been filled with more crying and screaming than usual, so I’m always tired.

If we were having coffeeI’d mention how we’re finally moving soon! In just over a week actually! I’d also mention that both Rory and I have talked about how we don’t have any excitement about it. We’re more preoccupied with final details to sort. Everyone we talk to has said we must be so excited, but it’s just not there. I think the whole house hunting business has taken so long, on top of this long settlement period, that we’re just bored of waiting. Once we’re there, I’m sure the excitement will kick in full force.

If we were having coffee, I’d talk about the fact that it’s almost officially the end of winter and I’m so happy! The sun no longer sets at 5.30pm, daylight savings will be kicking off soon so it’ll be light out longer. Also, there should now be less freezing icy winds!! I’m well over winter by now, and I’m happy to see it go. Bring on the warm weather!!

If we were having coffee, I’d ask how things are with you. What’s been on your mind lately? Has August just been a hazy blur to you as well?

What I Eat

Hey guys, for this post I wanted to do something different. I wanted to share what I eat in a typical work week. This was inspired after seeing Anni’s What I Ate posts 😀

My breakfasts are always the same for the most part. I either grab cereal or toast and have my morning coffee. Lunch is provided by my work. Dinner is whatever Rory and I feel like. So last week, I made notes of what I ate for every meal, and took pictures when I could (or remembered!).

Here we go!

Monday

Breakfast – Cereal (Light’n’Fruity), Coffee

Lunch – Chicken Fried Couscous

What do you guys eat in a typical Monday-Friday work/school week?

20170812_152708

I took it recently on a trip to Botanic Gardens. I chose it as the daffodil reminds me that spring is coming up. With that means warmer weather which I am so excited for! It also means that I’m getting closer to lots of exciting things coming up (moving, sister’s wedding, birthdays, Christmas, summer!!). All of which makes me really happy!

As always, feel no obligation to take part 🙂

Weekend Review #16

Saturday

Had porridge this morning. I realized I hadn’t had it in ages. Also, we had blueberries, cinnamon and maple syrup, so I just threw those all in too.

20170826_091806

After breakfast, we did the the usual laundry. Alongside just sitting around and playing/watching our own thing, eventually we made out grocery list and headed out.

Weekly Shop

For lunch, I couldn’t decide, till Rory reminded me of a little German bakery I always went on and on about but hadn’t been to in a while. So I ran there after our groceries to grab some delicious food. I settled on a Chicken and Brie Panini, and a Berlina jam donut. Both so good.

20170826_122117

Funny story, while in there, I bumped into an old friend who I haven’t seen in over 10 years. It was funny catching up, cause she is so different to how I remember her. In my head, she was permanently a 12 year old, and seeing her now as a grown adult threw me a little. I think I did to her too. We’re friends on Facebook but don’t really talk anymore. It was nice having a quick chat, but there was an air of awkwardness like we didn’t know what to say.

Back to business, the food was so gooood. After lunch, I wanted to do some decluttering. I went through our closet and lay everything out on the bed. I decided what I wanted to keep, and what to donate, and a small section to throw out. After ransacking the closet, I took on our shelves. We’re donating all our DVDs, cause we never watch DVDs, and a big collection of games which have always been there. We have quite a large donation pile now, which we plan to drop off at Sallies next weekend, since they’re closed on Sundays.

We also plan to finally start packing, and taking some stuff over to my parents house tomorrow. They’re close to our new place, and it means on the day, we have to bring over less stuff. Finally, we hung around till 5, when our flat was available for viewing. It’s such a pain keeping things tidy all the time, but it’s also surprisingly nice.

After that, we headed off to Five Boroughs to have dinner out with some friends. We tried another Wellington on a Plate burger. I got caught up talking and hanging out, so I didn’t take pictures. Also, the light wasn’t too good, so I didn’t want to spend ages trying to take a good picture! So here’s one from their official Instagram page:

flippin the bird burger

Flippin the Bird

After we got home, we just relaxed and watched some tv. I also finished reading The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. I’ve picked The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo to read next, since that has been no my TBR list forever.

Sunday

Scrambled eggs for breakfast, since we actually have eggs after yesterday’s shop.

20170827_085027

The morning was lost to watching HIMYM, before remembering we wanted to clear out some stuff early and move it to my parent’s place. So there’s less to move in two weeks. We got to work on that, and ended up with a small, and still decent pile.

20170827_130113

After that, we had a quick lunch. I had crackers and cheese since I love that, and then some yogurt.

At around 1, we headed out with our little blue car packed with things. We hung out with my folks for a bit, then headed back to town.

The only weekend selfie

After some blogging for a bit, I headed out to meet Sarah for another catch up. We met at the Library for some snacks and nibbles. We had fries with black truffle aioli, and sorbet. The sorbet was so interesting! It was lemon and sage, blueberry and lavender, and strawberry and champagne. I also had my watermelon cooler drink again. It was nice to catch up and talk. Not much had happened since last time we caught up, but it was nice to see her face to face and chat anyway.

Then I got home and Skyped for a bit with Kruti. Afterwards, we talked a bit about the Studio Ghibli celebration going on at the Embassy cinema at the moment. Rory and I quite like those movies, and we considered going to see them as we haven’t actually seen any on the big screen. In the end though, we decided we’d just watch them at home, what with moving and everything.

So we ended the night watching My Neighbour Totoro which I’ve been meaning to watch forever. I really liked it 😀

Let’s Cook! (Sweet and Sour Pork Edition)

**Before I get into this, I just wanted to note that a lot of my comments are doing that vanish thing once I hit send. So if you could check your spam comments and free me that would be so neat!! I don’t know why WordPress hates me sometimes ? If you don’t know how to check it, just type in your blog address followed by /wp-admin and then go to comments.**

Another cooking post! You can find the original recipe for the sauce here.

Sweet and Sour is one of my favourite dishes, I’ve loved it forever! One evening, we wanted Sweet and Sour, but then we realized we hadn’t bought any sauce. So we looked online, and found a sauce recipe. We tried it, and it was so tangy and delicious! So we thought we’d share it.

So in general for sweet and sour pork, you need pork, rice, pineapples (we use canned), capsicum and whatever other veggies you want.

So first off, cook some rice, whichever way works for you. We use a rice cooker cause it’s so much more convenient.

20170819_184202

Cut the veggies. Open the pineapples and pour out the juice.

For the sauce, I’m gonna get specific as we followed a recipe.

  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 2/3 cup pineapple juice
  • 1/3 cup rice vinegar (we used cider vinegar)
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce

20170819_184454

In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water. Set this aside.

In a saucepan, combine the pineapple juice, vinegar, sugar, ketchup and soy sauce. Bring to a boil over medium heat.

Stir in the cornstarch and cook until it thickens. Remove from heat, and it’s ready to be poured.

20170819_191832

Now you got the sauce, cook the meat.

20170819_190752

Brown the pork, then add the fruit and veggies.

Once everything is cooked, you can serve it all together!

20170819_192345

We do love this meal, and we’ve bookmarked this again for future use. It’s really fun to make your own sauce, rather than buying them 🙂
