November Favourites

Another month down, bring on December! But first, here’s what I’ve been enjoying during November.

Sarah Andersen Books

20171121_073220

I’ve been a fan of her comics since my Tumblr days, and was pleased to find that she’s released two books! I went to library and grabbed both. They’re so easy and fun to read, and of course, very relatable. I was laughing while reading through the books (many times), and I’m debating on buying them so I can flick through them whenever I want!

Pohutukawa Flowers

For us in New Zealand, you can’t have a summer Christmas without these flowers. They’re only native to our little country, and are so beautiful. The flowers are made up of lots of red soft needles. Needles is a weird way to describe it, as they’re ultra soft. They also come in different shapes. Some are circular, while others are more oblong. Either way, they’re literally everywhere, and it’s nice to see so much red and green everywhere. They’re a natural Christmas decoration!

Pamper Nights

I’m still making my way through all the goodies from my Night Time Cozy box. Because of how much goodies there are, I always have something to enjoy. I’ve gotten into the habit of ending the week with a bath and a mask. I’m really enjoying the Blue Lagoon masks at the moment.

Brave Soul Playsuit

My first order from ASOS is this adorable navy blue playsuit from Brave Soul. It’s got embroidered birds along the top half, is super light and perfect for summer! I’ve already managed to wear it a few times, and each time I’ve gotten a compliment on it. That’s obviously not the main reason of it, but I won’t lie, it does give me a little boost to my day 😀

Summer Overalls

Another item of clothing that I’ve loved this month is my new short black overalls! I’ve been keeping an eye out for blue ones, but these ones fell into my lap that I figured I’d get this black pair instead. Now I have a pair for the colder months, and the warmer months! It’s a similar design to my original black overalls, but obviously, it’s shorter. It’s very comfy again, which is very important if I’m going to be wearing them all day.

That’s what I’ve been loving this month! What has been some of your favourites during this month?

If We Were Having Coffee #7

I can’t believe how many coffee catch up’s I’ve been doing. It’s just become habit now to end the month on a bunch of catch up and update posts. But at the same time, it’s really nice.

I’m still loving my instant coffees at the moment. Mostly cause of my new cute mugs!

If we were having coffee, I would talk about how excited I am that December is upon is. December comes with so many amazing moments. My birthday, my dating anniversary with Rory, Christmas, summer, new year, and holidays!! I’m taking off both the Christmas and New Years weeks, as well as a few days around my birthday. I plan to relax and recharge, and get myself ready for 2018!

If we were having coffee, I would say that I’m feeling kind of guilty about how much I’ve spent this month. I haven’t bought anything big. But I have bought quite a few beauty related products. I got a little overexcited, and have been aware that I should be saving more. But the closer we get to my birthday and Christmas (December), the more in a spending mood I get. Here’s hoping I have better control next month (probably not!).

If we were having coffee, I’d bring up work. There’s been some bumps and crazy days, but it’s slowly winding down. Children are starting to leave on holidays, and while I love looking after them, it’s also nice to have slow days. We also are having our big centre and family Christmas party soon which is always an amazing time!

If we were having coffee, I’d talk about how much fun I’ve been having writing all my Christmas cards! I was only going to do 10, but I’ve gone a little over that now. It’s just so much fun to think that all these cards I handwrite will be received by friends all over the world!!

If we were having coffee, I’d ask how you’re feeling now that December is upon us and 2018 is starting to rear it’s head. I’d ask if you have any Christmas plans, or if it’s something that you don’t really celebrate. Let’s talk!

Bath Bombs Galore

You guys may know that I have really been enjoying bath bombs lately. If you didn’t well you will now. I haven’t been able to try any since moving into our new place, as before then I hadn’t lived in a place with a bath. At least, not since before bath bombs started showing on the scene. I’ve since tried quite a few, and I always take pictures of them. So I thought I would compile all the ones I’ve tried into one post and share my thoughts on them!

The first four I’ve tried are all from Lush. Which is probably where most of us go in search of cool bath bombs.

Intergalactic

In my search for my first ever bath bomb, I was immediately drawn to this one. It looks incredible! There’s so many swirling colours, and it gets even better when you drop it in the bath. I didn’t realize it had popping candy, so it even made noise in addition to the minty smell and crazy colours. As the water settled in the bath, I began to really notice the glitter in the water. It really did look like space. As nice as it was though, I feel like it’s a one-time thing.

Dragon’s Egg

I bought this one as it was apparently Harry Potter inspired. I thought it was Game of Thrones inspired, but either way, I like dragons. There was such a nice citrus-y scent as it fizzed and did it’s colour dance. As it settled, it became a nice golden colour. Similar to the previous one there was popping candy and glitter. It was very relaxing and I would love to try it again!

Avobath

This has been my most favourite out of all the ones I tried! It was so relaxing. It was a very woody and earthy. Avocado, olive oil, lemongrass and rosewood were some of the main ingredients. It was a literal dream and I already plan to get it again. The colour wasn’t as spectacular as others, but it’s definitely my go-to for a relaxing bath.

Fizzbanger

I wanted to try this as two of the main ingredients were apple and cinnamon. How could I say no to that? It began crackling right away, swirling yellows and greens and smelling like cinnamon. It was so nice. To add to the whimsy, soon I saw little bits of degradable paper appear. I picked one up, and it said Bang on it. Fizzbanger! I really liked this one.

The next three I tried were from The Body Shop. I didn’t know that they did bath bombs, but apparently they do!

Coconut Bath Bubble

This was a little blue heart which was so sweet. It already smelt like coconut so I had high hopes. I did have to help it along in the water and break it up by hand though. I enjoyed that part though, as it melted through my hands and fizzed. It made lots of bubbles and turned the water into a nice sky blue. The bubbles felt really nice and foamy!

Mango Bath Bomb

I love mango a lot. This smelt nice, and it’s also a bath bomb so I expected lots. It fizzed immediately, but the colour and scent wasn’t as strong as a Lush bath bomb. I did enjoy the bath, but it wasn’t particularly memorable which is a shame.

Pink Grapefruit Bubble Bath

I totally forgot to take a photo of the little bath bar itself which I was annoyed about. Basically, it’s a little pink heart, kind of like the coconut one. Anyway, I had to break it up again, but like I said, it feels nice on my hands when I do it. The bubbles came up which made the bath a little more fun. I would still like to get my hands on a Lush one so I can see how much more bubbles that one would produce. Also the bath water looked more purple than pink. I got a faint citrus-y scent, and had a nice, relaxing bath.

So that’s all the bath bombs I’ve tried so far. Lush is by far still the superior place to get them. I have so much more bath bombs I want to try. I also have my eye on a few bubble bars too. I’m sure a similar post like this will show up in the future again!

What do you like to add to your baths? Bubbles? Bombs? Just plain old hot water?

Weekend Review #27

Saturday

Before I get into this weekend, I wanted to share my gifts I got from our Secret Santa at work. My lovely co-worker got me some cute mugs and this pretty stone platter. They were all also piled with chocolates which me and Rory ate already!

secret santa

So onto the day. Starting it off with breakfast, coffee, and getting ready for the day!

We then headed off for errands for the day. Groceries and such. I wanted to go to the mall to get the last of presents, but the mall carpark was closed cause it was that full. Yikes.

Back home, we decided to make some milkshakes, topped with whipped cream! We threw in strawberries, bananas, blueberries, honey and yogurt!!

milkshake

Afterwards, I wanted to go to Rebound. It’s a local thrift store and I haven’t gone in ages so I wanted to see what I could find. I found three pretty things. These yellow sandals, a black and white singlet, and this singlet dress thing. All perfect for summer!

For the rest of the afternoon I started writing out my Christmas cards! I had so much fun and even started doodling on them.

After dinner we had some hot chocolate, and just relaxed till bedtime.

Sunday

I was in the mood for muffins for breakfast. Specifically, the Apple Cinnamon Muffins I made a month back. They’re just as delicious as I remember!

I paired it with coffee again from my new giant mug.

I decided to wear my new top as we went out to the mall again. This time, we got a park and managed to finish our shopping. I also got a new concealer, as my current one is running low. I got the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer. Another thing I bought was a new water bottle. It’s one of those neat ones that keep cool drinks cool and hot ones hot for up to 24 hours!

Back home, I did some blogging things then tidied up a little as a friend was coming over to hang out. We played a few new board games which made for a very relaxing afternoon.

As always, I ended my weekend on a little pamper session. I used the last of my bubble bath bars from the Body Shop. This one was Pink Grapefruit. I also tried the last mud mask from Blue Lagoon.

House Tour

Hey! So since I shared a little video tour of our old flat, I figured I should make one for our new place too.

So here we go!

We’re so happy with our place! Those of you who have been with me for a while may know that we’ve been house hunting for most of this year, and we’re so lucky to have found this one! It’s nice to know that we have a place we can really call home.

Before I go, I am super stoked to see that this blog has just reached 1900 followers! Crazy! Thank you once again for all the support! I feel like a broken record, but this is seriously an amazing community and I am so grateful to be a part of it 😀 ❤

Leisurely Walks to the River

I never did share the rest of the pictures I took back when we first took my camera out for a spin back in October. Well what a perfect excuse for leisurely walk post!

I was excited to explore more with my new camera. I love taking photos of nature, as it’s always just so pretty to look at. We walked to the nearby river and just took a bunch of photos. I’ve shared quite a few of my favourites with you guys already, but I wanted to share a few more.

Here come the pictures! There is a lot.

You may recognize the last one as it’s now the header image of my blog. I’m glad that this was my first photo excursion with my new camera. It was such a fun evening, and since then we’ve gone on more walks and I’ve taken even more pictures!

Have you gone on a walk recently? Where’d you go?

Another Beauty Haul & Mini Review

I did a post called Beauty Haul & Mini Review a few months ago and it continues to be one of my most popular posts. It’s a fun way for me to share the range of beauty products I’ve bought recently and to share my thoughts on them. Empties posts are another fun way to do this, but some products won’t be finished for a pretty long time, so I thought it would be fun to do another haul and mini review post!

Maybelline Master Brow Pro Palette (Deep Brown)

This is now my go-to eyebrow product. I had just a pencil before, but I didn’t really like it. These have a sculpt, colour and highlight palette. I don’t really ‘sculpt’, cause my eyebrows are fairly tame. I colour them to my liking then add highlight underneath. This is definitely a great eyebrow palette for it’s price.

Maybelline Master Strobing Liquid Illuminating Highlighter (100 Light/Iridescent)

So I was a little disappointed in this. The colour and shine of this highlight is really nice when I tried it on my hand. But after my first try with it, I realized that it’s quite blotchy. Maybe it’s just me not knowing how to blend liquid highilight properly, but it keeps happening. It looks obvious, blotchy and now it just sits in my drawer.

Bare Minerals Original SPF 15 Foundation (Medium Beige)

I’ve talked about this a lot recently and that’s cause it’s amazing! It offers so much coverage and never feels heavy. I don’t use that much on a daily basis, so this will last me forever! I’m so happy I got it.

NYX Studio Perfect Photo-Loving Primer (Clear)

Compared to my previous Rimmel primer, I’m really impressed with this one! I’ve only used it a few times, but the second I put it on, my face feels nice. It’s a thick, clear liquid, but once I rub it in, my skin feels smooth. I’m keen to try the Lavender and Green Colour Correcter versions too.

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge

I use this more than my knock off beauty blender. It does a good job of blending out my concealer. That’s my main use for it, and it does it better than my brush or fingers so I’m happy.

Too Faced Mini Concealer

I like this little concealer. I’m using it as my under eye concealer at the moment. It brightens the area and doesn’t crease, which is always a plus.

Wet’n’Wild Mega Glo Highlighter (Precious Petals)

I was searching for this for so long, and I’m so glad I finally got it! It’s so pretty!! It doesn’t show up too much on my skin tone, so I get more of a subtle glow rather than the ‘blinding’ one this highlighter is known for. That suits me perfect, and I love just playing with it.

Tarte Amazonian Finishing Powder

I’m going to be honest, I still have no idea what the different between a finishing powder and setting powder. But, I do use this more than my Rimmel setting powder, just cause it’s more fun to play with. I have been putting this on top of my base makeup, and it does a good job of keeping it smooth all day. I also use setting spray though, so I don’t know if it’s that to thank for keeping my makeup in place all day (or both?)

Real Techniques Brushes

more brushes

I bought a few more brushes, and since I still really like Real Techniques I decided to play it safe and stick with them. I got their expert face brush, and then a few eyeshadow brushes. These are the base shadow, deluxe crease and fine liner brush. I wanted to play with some eyeshadow brushes, as I want to work on my eye makeup skills.

That’s all of my recent beauty buys! Have you guys tried any of these products? What have you bought lately?

What I Learned In University

So I thought this would be a fun little series to start, where I share what I learned in different phases in my life. I wanted to start with University. I was thinking about High School, but that is now so long ago that my brain blanked when I tried to think of things I learnt back in High School. Good job, brain. However, I can still remember what I learned back in university.

I started university in 2010. I studied for three years and completed my Bachelor of Music. Then, I took a gap year, then went back for a year and completed my Graduate of Teaching Diploma in early Childhood. Here’s what I learnt during my time there, not related to what I was studying.

  • It’s okay to skip the occasional class.

Yes okay. I did skip one or two classes sometimes, but I planned ahead with those! I made sure that there wasn’t a test that day, or nothing super important was being covered. If I felt a little run down, or I had some other assignments to catch up on, then I would sometimes just stay at home or in the library. You need it, and it meant that instead of being unfocused in class, I was focused elsewhere. If you told this to high school me, I think she would flip out and freak. Skipping a class (even if your brain is fried) was unthinkable.

  • You’ll get addicted to some kind of caffeine

Coffee, energy drinks, tea, sodas, you’ll end up picking up one of these as a habit from university. Or maybe you started early in high school. I would drink it once or twice in high school, but I wasn’t really fond of it. By the end of university, I was hooked on it, and had adjusted to weird sleeping patterns depending on what assignments I was working on.

  • You’ll meet like-minded people

After high school, I drifted into another group of friends. It’s hard to see the same group everyday if you’re studying different subjects, and even more if you’re at different universities. It just happens. You will however meet people who you click with and have the same interests. I met some amazing people while studying music. We would have arguments and conversations about soundtracks and classical music that I wouldn’t have had with anyone else. Also, we all went together to see the final Harry Potter movie at midnight.

  • You’ll get overwhelmed

Some more than others, but everyone will have a mini freak out or even a meltdown. There’s a lot more work that goes into university studies. You’re learning things a lot more in-depth than you did before, and you’re squeezing this into a shorter amount of time.  Sometimes your brain just freaks, and you need to have a cry. Or multiple cries. Stop, take a breath, and take a break, or talk to someone. But don’t keep trying to force yourself to work. Your brain won’t co-operate after a certain point.

  • You’ll make your parents proud

So this one is pretty cute. Obviously, my own parents were very proud of me for graduating and getting my degree. They came to the graduation ceremony, clapped, yelled ‘woo’ when I got my diploma on stage etc. But the story that sticks out in my mind is one of a friend’s. His mum pretty much followed us to the back where we were lining up to come to our seats. She was taking lots of photos, waving, and had permanent tears in her eyes. She was so beyond excited, you couldn’t help but smile. It was a night full of proud families and loved ones, which was just so wonderful.

That’s all I can think of for now. I think five is a good number to wrap it up at! Anything else you guys would like to add to this list?

Angela.
