Tarte Lipstick Collection

My favourite lipstick for a while has been my Tarte lip paint in Grand. I got it from my Tarte Treasure Box on my birthday and I’ve loved it ever since. In a recent Tarte sale, I decided to buy some more of the lip paints. They had two little gift boxes, and I couldn’t decide between the two, so I got both!

tarte lippies 01

Tarteist Lip Trio

So this is a travel size lip kit, containing two tarteist lip paints and a lip liner. Each colour is a shade of pink. I don’t have much pink lipsticks in general, so I wanted to try it.

The lip crayon is in bubbly (pink berry). The lipstick with the black lid is a quick dry matte lip paint in epic (pink raspberry), while the lipstick with the gold lid is a glossy lip paint in token (pink nude).

tarte lippies 06

I used the liner with Epic, and I think it’s appropriately named. I really like this colour on me! It’s quite a dark pink, almost red. It was easy to apply and felt smooth on my lips. It dried matte quite fast. There was a lot of colour pay off after just one coat which I really love about these lipsticks. As for the lip liner, it glided on so smooth. I don’t often wear lip liners (cause I don’t have one), but I can definitely see the appeal of it. It makes lipstick look a lot cleaner and tidier.

tarte lippies 07

I look a bit sad in this, but it may be cause I don’t really like lip gloss. Token is a nice nude colour, but it does feel sticky due to it’s glossy nature. The colour itself is more nude than pink, and is similar to a lipstick I already have. I don’t think I’d use this one that much. I also didn’t use the liner for this, as it’s darker than the lip gloss and I didn’t like how it looked.

Tarteist Lip Wardrobe Volume II

Another travel kit, but this time it has two mini lip paints. Both are pinky again, but as I already got one mini set, I figured why not get another. The first is a quick dry matte lip paint in rose (rosy nude), and the second is a creamy matte lip paint in fomo (mauve).

tarte lippies 09

Rose reminded me a little of the one tarte lippie I already have Grand, but it’s a bit of a deeper colour. It worked nicely with the lip liner from the other set. Like with Epic, there was a lot of colour in just one coat. It did feel a little drying, but maybe that was cause I’d already tried a few other lipsticks and removed them. This one has more colour than other nude lipsticks I have, so I can see myself using this a little more.

tarte lippies 08

Finally out of the new lippies, we have Fomo. A hilarious name. I really like this one. It’s a mauve colour, so it’s more of a purple-y colour. It reminds me a little of my purple NYX lipstick in Bustier. As always, the colour is amazing with just one coat. It feels velvety smooth once applied and dries matte quickly. I already really like this one too.

Those are all of my new tarte lipsticks, but as I had it nearby, I wanted to try on my old favourite just for fun!

tarte lippies 10

Ah, Grand. I’ve had this since my birthday, and it’s the once I’ve worn the most out of all my lipsticks.

So now I have a lot of these mini lip paints, and I’m so happy! I have a range of nudes and more pinky tones. Between all of these and the rest in my lipstick collection, I don’t think I’ll need any more lipsticks any time soon haha!

Have You Met Elena?

Introducing another lovely blogger friend…

Haaaaaaaaaaaaaave you met Elena?

DSC04197

Elena blogs over at Out’n’About. She’s from Switzerland, but is currently on an overseas exchange programme in Canada. She blogs about her art, travel, photography and so much more!

DSC05080

Here are Elena’s own words about her blog:

I launched OUT N’ ABOUT January 1st, 2017 to use it as my creative space. My goal here is to share my love for art, literature and travel, as well as creating discussions about society, philosophy and whatever else crosses my mind!

Blogging is still something I am experimenting with, there will always be things to learn and figure out, but most importantly, it is something I absolutely enjoy doing! Hopefully I could have caught your interest and brim over some of my enthusiasm through this blog!

I’ve been following Elena since early in my days of blogging, I remember when she announced she was heading off to Canada! She’s always been so lovely and supportive, and I always love to read about what she gets up to!

Here are some of my favourite posts of hers:

DSC06185o

Elena often shares some through-provoking posts, and this is one of my favourites. She shares her thoughts on responsibilities as a girl (and human) about feminism and equality. You should definitely give it a read, as I can’t give it enough justice!

DSC06287

Elena has shared her photography with us on numerous occasions, and I really liked this one! On a recent cold trip to the frozen river, Elena snapped away and got some amazing shots like the one above.

DSC05788

Another thought piece that is very relevant to all of us. Social media. We often showcase the best side of ourselves online, keeping some of the more not so picturesque moments to ourselves. I really enjoyed reading Elena’s thoughts about this, and she really brings up some great points.

DSC05593

The title says it all really. Elena was lucky enough to go dog sledding, and shares with us all, her adventure!

DSC05048

Another photo series that I really loved! Elena edited her photos in a very unique way, focusing on the negative colours. They came out quite striking and different. I love how Elena is always experimenting with her photography!

I hope you guys do check out Elena’s blog! All of these posts I mentioned are amazing, but they’re just a small section of what you can find on Out’n’About!

Books 6 – 10 (2018 Reading Challenge)

I’ve gotten through the next five books for my Goodreads Reading Challenge. I’m now officially a third of the way through my goal! Which works out nicely, as we’re almost a third of the way through the year.

6) The Disaster Artist: My Life Inside The Room, the Greatest Bad Movie Ever Made by Greg Sestero and Tom Bissell

17404078
I started this on February 19 and finished on March 11. I had recently seen The Room and through my research on this weird movie, I came across this book. It’s since been turned into a movie, which I enjoyed more than The Room!
This is definitely worth a read if you know anything about The Room. The book follows like an autobiography of Greg (who plays Mark in the movie), how he meets Tommy, they befriend each other, and then throughout the creation, filming and then the premiere of The Room. It’s a fascinating behind the scenes look of the movie, as well as Greg’s relationship with the strange man. I sometimes stopped reading just to process what had happened. The movie was a pretty good adaptation of the book.
I rated it three stars. I did like the book, but Wiseau still just weirds me out and I can’t process my thoughts about him.
7) Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
19547856
I started this on March 11 and finished it a few days later on March 14. I heard about the movie Dear Simon and thought it looked interesting. This led me to find the book it was based on, and as it was gathering a lot of praise in the YA genre, I wanted to give it a read.
YA is still one of my favourite genres. It’s easy and fun to read, and the characters are often quite likeable, if not, relatable. This book doesn’t really have a plot in the sense where they story moves from A to B. It’s more like a slice of life, where we fall into Simon’s world and his struggles with coming out to those around him. With lots of pop culture references, and ‘dorky’ moments, this book was just a joy to read.
I rated it 5 stars. I really loved reading this, which you may be able to tell since I read it in just a few days!
8) Doing It! Let’s Talk About Sex by Hannah Witton
32181998
I started this on March 14 and finished it in March 23. I first heard about this book from Meg, and her book recommendations have never let me down so I added it to my TBR list. After finishing my previous book, I decided to delve back into a non-fiction book.
I don’t actually watch Hannah on YouTube, but she does often talk about sex and relationships on her channel. Reading the book was quite informal, it felt like talking to a peer rather than a ‘teacher’. She covered topics from sex (obviously), porn, masturbation, STDs, consent, and everything else. I definitely learnt quite a bit, and I do think this is a book everyone should read. It covers a decent chunk of sex-ed in an entertaining way.
I rated it 4 stars. I did really love this book and learnt a bit, but I feel like some more topics could have gone more in-depth. But then, the book might be super long. Either way, it was still a really good read.
9) In Order to Live: A North Korean Girl’s Journey to Freedom by Yeonmi Park and Maryanne Vollers
24611623
I started this on March 23 and finished on April 3. This book showed up in my recommendations, and I was intrigued so I added it to my TBR.
This book gave me a lot of feels. Something that really stood out to me is thinking about where she was in her life in North Korea growing up, comparing it to how I grew up. We’re around the same age, so it really made me appreciate my own life more. It’s really a fascinating and heartbreaking look at her life in North Korea, and her long escape to South Korea.
I rated it 5 stars. There were times when I couldn’t put the book down and I was just horrified/fascinated by what I was reading. She really has been through a lot on her journey to freedom. I really recommend reading this.
10) Capture Your Style: Transform You Instagram Photos, Showcase Your Life, and Build the Ultimate Platform by Aimee Song
28818356
I started this on March 30 and finished on April 11. Rory got me this as an anniversary present as he knew I was interested in it. This book has been going around in the blogging world and I was keen to read it.
I really enjoyed this book. There’s a lot of inspiration in it, Aimee’s instagram feed is definitely thing of beauty. Along with all the inspiration, she does give a lot of tips to taking outfit, selfies, food/travel/flat lay/architecture photos and more. As well as tips to try grow your Instagram following. I can see why so many people recommend getting this book.
I rated this 4 stars. As much as I loved  the book, I do take it with a grain of salt. I’m not able to document my life on Insta as she can with hers, since my blog is more a part time hobby rather than my full time job. One day I would love to be able to do that, but till then, I will store these tips and inspiration in my bookshelf and peruse them from time to time!
What books have you read lately?

A Letterman Jacket OOTD

In a recent haul post, I shared with you all this pink and yellow jacket. I call it my Letterman jacket for many reasons. It looks like one, and also it has this blue A on the side which I like to think means it was made for me! So, I had to make an OOTD post with the jacket as the main attraction.

Here we go.

jacket ootd 01

I paired the jacket with simple items. Black singlet, blue shorts and black sneakers. With the jacket being quite colourful, I figured these would help it stand out more.

jacket ootd 02

This jacket is really thick. I don’t know what it’s lined with, but it keeps me very warm. I can definitely imagine myself living in it as the cooler seasons get…cooler.

jacket ootd 03

The colours of the jacket feel quite feminine. Pastel pink, yellow, and then white on the sleeves and accents. It’s really nice. I also love the patches on it! I don’t know if they’ve always been there or if someone has added them, but they look good. I would definitely add more if I find some I like.

jacket ootd 04

Also they have pockets. Anything without fake pockets is a win in my book. All in all, I’m so glad I came across this jacket. It was love at first sight, and I definitely plan on getting as much use out of it as I can!

jacket ootd 05

I went into the thrift store that day with the intention of just to browse. But once I saw the jacket, I knew I couldn’t leave without it!

What’s one of your favourite clothing items at the moment?

Outfit Details:

Jacket – Thrifted

Singlet – Thrifted

Shorts – Dotti

Let’s Bake! (Carrot Cake Balls Edition)

This is another trusted Nerdy Nummies recipe, but not from the cookbook. Ro uploaded the video sharing the recipe a few weeks ago and I’ve been wanting to try it ever since! So over the weekend, I gave it a go!

Here is the video which tells you everything you need to know about how to make these. She also has a written version on her blog.

My ones didn’t come out as perfectly spherical or decorated, but I gave it my best shot and I’m still really happy with how they came together!

Once you have all the ingredients, you take all the dry ingredients and mix them in one bowl.

carrot cake ball 01

Then you take all the wet ingredients in another bowl.

carrot cake ball 02

Then mix it all together, adding the carrots.

carrot cake ball 03

Now you pour it into a cake pan and cook for 30-35 minutes at 180 degrees. While that bakes, I piped out my carrot decorations (which I forgot to take a photo of, but you’ll see them later). You’ll want them to set for at least an hour.

Now comes the fun part. Destroying the cake you’ve just made and crumbling it up into breadcrumbs! Add some buttercream to the mix until it all resembles playdough. Then scoop them into balls.

carrot cake ball 06

I tried to make mine perfectly round, but this was as close as I could manage. Anyway, now I get to melt white chocolate.

carrot cake ball 07

Drop the cake balls into the chocolate to coat them. Then scoop them out and place them on the tray. Add one of the iced carrots before the chocolate hardens. My iced carrots didn’t look exactly how I wanted, but I think they work this way.

carrot cake ball 08

The last touch is to sprinkled some biscuit crumbs on top. I got excited and added lots, but hey, crushed biscuits are yummy.

carrot cake ball 09

carrot cake ball 10

That’s all for today’s baking post! As always, I love trying out Ro’s creations. I never expect to make an exact replica, but it’s fun giving it my all and seeing what comes out in the end!

Have you baked anything recently?

Angela.

Products that Lived up to the Hype

There’s a lot of beauty products that lots of people can agree on are incredible. They often become cult favourites, and some definitely live up to the hype, while other’s don’t. It definitely depends on individual needs and preferences, but I wanted to share some of the products that did live up to that hype for me.

Too Faced Hangover Primer

hype 03

Our replenishing face primer is your instant cure. It hydrates, smooths and brightens skin for a dewy, healthy looking finish (Too Faced).

I’ve talked about this primer quite a bit lately. It’s considered a really good primer in the make up world. On Sephora, it’s rated 4.2 stars out of over 2300 reviews. On Influenster, it’s rated 4.5 stars out of over 12,000 reviews, and is ranked #2 out of all the face primers. It includes coconut water, smells really good, and really hydrates my skin. It’s so moisturizing and I really recommend giving it a try! It’s lived up to the hype for me, so if you’re looking for a primer, definitely try this!

Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer

hype 04

A best-selling, full-coverage, vegan, blendable concealer that instantly brightens, smooths & shapes skin (Tarte Cosmetics).

This seems to be the holy grail concealer of many in the beauty world. Everyone I talked to just loved it. On the official Tarte site, it’s rated 4.5 stars out of around 6000 reviews. On Influenster, it’s rated 4.8 out of around 24,000 reviews, and is ranked #1 in concealer. This concealer really is full coverage. There is so many shades available that you will definitely find the perfect one for you. The formula does smooth and brighten my skin, and I really love that. It definitely lived up to the hype!

Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray

hype 05

Is makeup meltdown ruining your midnight mojo? Mist on this weightless spray to give your makeup serious staying power. All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray keeps makeup looking gorgeously just-applied for up to 16 hours—without melting, fading or settling into fine lines (Urban Decay).

This is the only setting spray I’ve tried as it came highly recommended, and it didn’t disappoint. On Sephora, it’s rated 4.4 out of over 7000 reviews. On Influenster, it’s rated 4.7 stars out of almost 32,000 reviews, and is ranked #1 in setting sprays. It feels quite moisturizing yet light when I spray my face. It definitely helps to keep my makeup in place all day. I’m already onto my second bottle. I really recommend it!

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter

hype 06

Our best-selling creamy highlighter formula is now available in an unparalleled shade range that caters to all skin tones. Find the shade that makes you glow! (Becca)

I heard about this from a few bloggers, as well as from the beauty community in general. On Sephora, it’s rated 4.4 out of over 1100 reviews. On Influenster, it’s rated 4.8 out of over 17,000 reviews, and is rated #3 in highlighters. It looks beautiful, and when I finally got to try it, I wasn’t disappointed! It’s so pigmented and creamy, and definitely can be blinding. I was so impressed!

Wet’n’Wild Mega Glo Highlighting Powder

hype 07

Its ultra-pearly finish and easy-to-blend formula makes it a fan favorite! The silky smooth, highly-pigmented powder gives an all over glow when applied to the cheek bones, brow bone, and cupid’s bow (Wet’n’Wild Beauty).

When I first heard about highlighters, I wanted to try one and looked up good drugstore options. This one came out on top by a long shot. On the official Wet’n’Wild site, it’s rated 4.9 out of 380 reviews. On Influenster, it’s rated 4.7 out of over 9300 reviews, it’s ranked #4 in highlighter. While I now use my Becca one more, I still absolutely love this one! It’s very pigmented, creamy and bright! It’s not really blinding unless you build it up, which I sometimes prefer. If you want to get into highlighters, and are wanting to look at a good drugstore option, definitely go for this!

Physician’s Formula Murumuru Butter Bronzer

hype 08

Ultra-luxurious bronzer, infused with Murumuru Butter, delivers a radiant Brazilian goddess glow! Incredibly creamy and soft texture combines the best features of a powder and cream bronzer, to deliver a lit-from-within tropical glow unlike any other (Physicians Formula).

I’ve heard a lot of good about this bronzer from bloggers recently. Whenever I ask about a good bronzer, this one always pops up. On Influenster, it’s rated 4.7 reviews out of 8500 reviews, and is ranked #1 in bronzers. The main thing I love of this bronzer is the smell. It smells delicious!! It’s also very creamy and soft, and so easy to blend! It gives such a nice glow, and has definitely become my go-to bronzer! I really recommend giving it a go!

Those are all the products I want to share today that have lived up to the hype! I definitely understand why these products are so highly rated and are considered favourites.

Thoughts on Drinking & Alcohol

I have on occassion shared these rambly posts where I just let my thoughts spill out onto my keyboard. I’ve done a post on tattoos, positivity, instagram, and a few others. Today, I wanted to share my thoughts on alcohol and drinking in general.

20170910_192602

I often say that I don’t drink alcohol, because it’s very rare when I do. If I do, it’s usually just one glass. It’s very rare for me to go more than that. The first time I drunk something was at a friend’s party at her place. It was quite small, there were only a few of us, and they had those really fruity alcohol drinks. I had one, and I couldn’t really taste the alcohol in it, so I thought it was fine. Since then, I have tried a variation of wine and beer. I will say this, I hate beer. It’s disgusting. The taste is just so weird. Both beer and wine have that ‘alcohol’ taste, but I prefer something with more of a ‘sweeter’ side, like wine. I’ve liked some, I haven’t liked others. I had sips of champagne at events, but I never finished a glass. I have on occasion been able to have a few glasses of wine. On our honeymoon, I branched out and tried some cocktails. Those, I can say, I really like. I tried a chocolate-y one, quite a few fruit-y ones, and they were delicious! It does have me curious to try more, but they’re so expensive. Maybe I’ll try make some one day.

Those few times where I’ve had a few glasses have mostly been with Rory. I feel comfortable being with him like that. Something that I will say here is one of the reasons why I don’t like binge drinking. Getting that drunk, and losing that much control and inhibitions is scary to me. I don’t understand why you would want to get to the point where you might make questionable decisions, or do something you’ll regret. On top of that, alcohol is also an acquired taste. I do feel like that is one of the main reasons why I don’t really like this drinking culture.

P70326-200848

However, I’m not really against alcohol and drinking. From when I was a lot younger, my thoughts have definitely shifted on alcohol. I used to flat out say no if I was asked out. If I want to, I’ll decide to have a drink of alcohol, but most of the time, there’s better (more tastier) drinks out there to have.

What are your thoughts on alcohol? Do you enjoy a drink every now and then? Or do you just not like it?

Angela.

An Autumn Haul

I wanted to share more things of what I’ve bought recently. There was a mixture of clothes and beauty products, as that’s where I love to buy things the most!

Here’s the beauty products I bought recently!

beauty haul

I bought two hair products, and two makeup products.

OGX Coconut Milk Conditioner

I have the shampoo version of this, and as I’ve recently run out of conditioner, I decided to grab this. I’ve yet to try it, but if it’s anything like the shampoo, I’m sure I’ll love it!

Kenra Blow Dry Spray

I heard good things about this heat spray, so I wanted to try it. It’s really light. I don’t feel much product on my head, and it does speed up the hair drying process! I’ve been really impressed, and I use it everyday.

Too Faced Hangover Primer

I’ve heard nothing but praise for this primer, so I knew I wanted to give it a go. My previous primer ran out, so this seemed like the perfect time to try it. It smells so good, I always love coconut scents. It also feels quite refreshing on my face, and I do feel like it helps prep my skin for makeup and keep it looking fresh longer! I really like it!

Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer

Another product I’ve heard nothing but praise for! I finally caved and got it. It also smells really good, that’s always a plus for me. It’s quite light and creamy when I apply it, and it does blend easily. The shade is quite good on my skin tone which is a plus, it doesn’t have that orange-y undertone which I prefer.

Here’s the clothing that I bought recently!

clothes haul

Brown Combat Boots

I spotted these in the Red Cross opshop. They looked really cute, and I liked the colour. I’m always fond of boots, and as we head into cooler weather, I’m sure they’ll come in handy!

Grey Pompom Beanie

I love beanies with giant pompoms. I haven’t had one in a while though, preferring my black crochet one. However, I spotted this in the store, and it immediately grabbed me. So I grabbed it!

Pink and Yellow Letterman Jacket

Another impulse thrift buy. It’s so bright, and definitely not my usual colour choice in jackets. I often stick with neutrals, but this jacket is so comfy!! It’s a little puffy, and I love the ‘letterman’ design of it. There’s lots of patches and stuff on it that add to it’s unique look. I can’t wait for it to get even cooler so I can wear it without sweating haha!
