Maternity Clothes Haul

So I’m still not really showing, but I have already started buying maternity clothes in preparation. I’ve been having a lot of fun looking around in stores and online. I’ve bought a few pieces that I thought would share with you guys. Down the line, I’m sure I’ll do some outfit posts with the maternity clothes when the bump is a lot more prominent.

I bought these three from ASOS.

Mummy to ‘Bee‘ shirt, Black Smock Dress, and blue boyfriend jeans

The bee shirt was just too cute to pass up. I wanted at least one ‘novelty’ piece. The smock dress looks floaty and comfy, which will be perfect for the warmer weather. I am also a fan of my jeans, so I knew I had to at least get one pair of maternity jeans.

I’ve ordered these from Jeanswest, and they’re scheduled to arrive early next week. A layered t-shirt, a shirt dress, and striped maxi dress.

More light dresses for the coming seasons. I’m preparing for a hot summer, so I want to be comfortable! I have tried to stick with spring and summer wardrobe choices, as that will be the weather when I’m going to need these clothes.

For now, I’ve stopped looking at more maternity clothes before I get too excited, but I’m sure I may get more down the line. Sorry I don’t have any pictures to share, but I will definitely do outfit posts with them over the next coming weeks.

What have you guys bought online lately?

One Year of Our House

So we’ve owned our place for over a year now! The official milestone sort of passed us by, but I wanted to do a post to celebrate anyway.

Last September, we moved into a fairly empty house with plans to make it our own. We literally had barely anything since we previously lived in furnished flats. We had some stuff, but it looked a little sad in this bigger space. So we went shopping, got bits and pieces we needed and wanted, and slowly filled up our home.

As time went on, the house became a home. We started decorating more, adding more bits and pieces to add character and make this place ours. It was more work looking after the house sure. It’s bigger, so there’s more to clean, and we also had the outdoor area to maintain. We got used to it though, we take pride in making our house look good (most days, sometimes we get lazy).

what I wore

We put a lot more money into the house as small issues came up. We had to renovate the whole bathroom, remove a tree that was making mess in the backyard, get the garage door replaced…but that’s also part of being a home owner right? It could be a lot worse, we’re lucky that our house has been pretty well-behaved.

Now, we’ve been here for a year. We’re comfortable and happy. We now have a little black cat living with us, and we’re starting a family. How will our house look in another year from now, or even five? It’ll probably be a lot more hectic, that’s for sure! Either way, I’m sure we’ll all be happy in our little home.

If We Were Having Coffee (September Edition)

Hey all, we’re back to the coffee again! Nothing really happened this weekend, so I wanted to do a little catch up post on life lately. I feel like I’m doing a lot of mini updates recently, but I always find them fun!

If we were having coffee, I’d say I’ve been a bit lax about interacting in the blogging community. I’ve been starting to get into the swing of writing posts again, but I haven’t been great at keeping up with reading everyone’s posts. I try to read every now and then, but if you haven’t heard from me lately, I’m trying to get better at it! I do honestly love reading what everyone is up to. Sometimes all I have time for is to show my support with a like, but I want to get back to commenting lots too. I love being a part of this blogging community!

If we were having coffee, I’d bring up the change of seasons. Spring is really starting to take hold, which I guess means, all my American and European friends are entering Fall. Spring and fall are two of the best seasons in my opinion. Nature changes the most during this time, before it settles into being too hot or too cold. It’s always just a lovely time of year, whichever one you’re in! For us, we’re getting lots of blossoming trees and flowers, warmer sun, and longer days.

If we were having coffee, I would talk about how I’m gaining more confidence in driving! It’s been a long time coming, but I’ve finally started driving around on my own. It’s nice to be able to take myself places, instead of always relying on Rory driving me, or taking public transport. I will say though that my parking skills still need a bit of work (especially parallel parking, yikes), but I’m getting more and more comfortable with being behind on the wheel.

If we were having coffee, I’d ask what’s been going on with you guys lately.

Bump Update (13 Weeks In)

So I’ve been wanting to do updates on my pregnancy. I was going to do it weekly, but that seemed like too much, so I’m thinking, like, maybe every two weeks.

How I’m Doing

I’ve just entered into my 14th week. Baby is now the size of a lemon. I’ve been squinting at my stomach pretty much everyday trying to figure out if I’m showing. I honestly can’t tell. Sometimes it seems like I’m showing a little, other times I look the same, even if I feel different. The main difference I’ve noticed the past week, is that I get hungry at really random times. It feels like my blood sugar levels drop at random times, which doesn’t help since my work has very structured break times. But since everyone knows I’m pregnant, they don’t mind that I’m sitting there munching on crackers with all the toddlers.

The Bad

The past three months have been a whirlwind in terms of symptoms, and both emotional and physical changes. I hear that the first trimester is often considered one of the hardest because of all the symptoms. Nausea, food aversions, exhaustion, random body aches, mood swings and constipation are just a few of the symptoms that bombard you, and most times, you haven’t told people you’re pregnant yet, so you can’t really complain about it too much.

The Good

On the other side, I have loved being able to share the news of the pregnancy with everyone. Especially with family and close friends. A baby is very exciting news, and it’s been so much fun being able to share in that with everybody. I’ve also liked looking through maternity clothes options as I’ll probably start showing within the next month.  One of the best parts so far though, has been the ultrasounds. I think for both Rory and I, it really has made the pregnancy more concrete. We get to see the little baby somersaulting around and fidgeting all over the show. He/she is definitely real and growing fast!

The Random

So I’m still not sure what counts as a pregnancy craving, or just a regular craving. But I have been eating at least three oranges a day these past two weeks, and I want more. So that could be one. Also, mashed potatoes. I’ve been insisting on them as a side for dinner at least 5 times a week, so that may be one too.

The Questions

So, we’ve been asked a fair bit if we’ve started buying anything for baby, or decorating the nursery. The answer is, no, we haven’t really thought about it yet. Outside of a random pair of shoes (and a onesie) that I impulsively bought cause they looked cute. There’s still plenty of time to nest, I’ve only now entered the second trimester after all.

That’s all for this update! I like getting all my thoughts out like this, it’ll be cool to continue these as time goes on 🙂

Exploring the Gardens at Aston Norwood

So I mentioned in my weekend recap post that we had high tea at Aston Norwood. The food itself was okay, but we were blown away by the gardens! I was so excited to see all the cherry blossoms! A lot of the other trees were also starting to bloom, so we’re thinking of returning in around a month to see how it looks then. We’re sure it’ll be even more stunning.

We wandered around for a whole hour just drinking it all in. I took so many pictures, and the best I could narrow it down to share was 20. It’s just all so beautiful!

We went down every path, even the one that went uphill. After a while I realized I was getting winded a bit (hello baby), but we were near the top so I persevered. I think if we come back next month, I won’t be able to go up that path. The views were worth it though!

I love that I got my cherry blossom fill in the end.We may have missed it in Japan, but it’s in full swing in this garden at home!

I love looking back at all of these photos, it’s making me more excited to visit even more gardens. Even just doing general exploring as the warmer weather kicks in.

Have you guys visited any gardens lately?

Weekend Snapshots (Sep 15-16)

Back to another quick highlight reel of this past weekend. We went out a bit more than we usually do, which was nicely balanced by playing the Spiderman game for hours longer than I meant to.

Chicago

Chicago

Seeing a musical live means so much to me, especially since it barely ever happens in my town. It’s like a once a year thing. Chicago came down to Wellington as part of a world tour so we decided to go with a friend on Friday night. We all had dinner before hand, caught up, and then watched the show. I still personally prefer the movie version, just cause it’s a lot ‘showier’. I get that there is limitation to a stage performance than a movie, and I still really enjoyed it. But movie magic is still my favourite.

High Tea & Dinner

We had a double whammy of going out for food on Sunday. In the morning, we had a voucher to go have a high tea breakfast at Aston Norwood. Ending the day by dinner out at La Bella Italia. The first one we had a voucher for, the dinner was comped by Rory’s work since they’ve been crazy busy lately. Lots of good food to end the weekend on.

Gardens

gardens 01

So the place where we had high tea are also known for their gardens. It’s something they brag about on their site, and they should. It was beautiful, and it also features cherry blossoms! I got really excited when I saw that, especially since we missed cherry blossom season in Japan, I needed my fill of the pink flowers. I’ll have a full post later in the week with more pictures, since I had so much fun photographing everything. I even brought out my DSLR which I haven’t used in a while!

So that was our weekend. We went out quite a bit, ate out a lot, but still managed to keep on top of our weekly household errands and relax. That’s a weekend well spent I think.

How was all of your weekends?

Bump For Joy: Pregnancy Journal

I love stationary of all kinds. I came across pregnancy journals while hanging around on the internet and thought it looked like so much fun. The one that caught my eye the most was this one called Bump For Joy by Studio Oh!. It looks so cute, and I loved all the designs and prompts inside.

It breaks up the book in sections. First is Pre-Conception, which has more cute designs, as well as pages to fill in about your relationship and general tips about trying to conceive.

about us

The next section is about the first trimester. It again has lists, general advice, but also fun little things like what you’d want the nursery to look like, or ideas for maternity clothing.

first trimester

Each trimester section also has pages to write on about weekly notes, places to put photos of your bump as it progresses, as well as appointments. Basically it’s a pregnancy journal. The design of it just really appeals to me though. I’m tempted to get other stationary from this brand.

As the trimesters go on, the prompts to fill in get more related to the birth of baby. There’s even a section for Labor & Delivery. You can write ideas for your birth plan, what to pack in your hospital bag, and also, more cute designs!

labor and delivery

Finally, the last few pages are devoted to baby. There’s a section to write a letter to baby, as well as places to put photos.

As you can tell, I really like this journal. It’s so cute, and I’m having fun slowly filling it out. I can’t wait to see how it looks by the time baby arrives next year!

Have you bought any cute stationary lately?

Winter Bucket List (Reviewed)

Back in June, I decided to create myself a little Winter Bucket List. It was very short, but since it’s been a while (woops) since I looked at it, I thought it would be fun to see how I did anyway.

Make some soup

So I didn’t technically make soup, but Rory did. I ate it, and it was good. We recently bought all these cookbooks, and tried the Pumpkin Soup recipe. It was really delicious, and a perfect wintry meal.

Try lots of bath bombs

I tried a fair few early on in Winter. I shared the ones I tried in my Bath Bombs Galore post. I haven’t tried much recently though. I like to have really hot baths, especially in winter, but I’ve had to stop. It’s not great for your skin, and also it’s not good for baby. So I’d either have to have a lukewarm bath or none at all. I can wait till next winter.

Finish at least 2 books

I still haven’t picked up a book since May. The guilt has gone away now (although it comes back when I log onto Goodreads), as I have other activities I like to do. Cross stitching, playing games, watching tv. I just can’t get interested in any book at the moment. I’ll still try though.

Complete a few jigsaw puzzles

I did complete a Wasgij after my big 3000 one. I was going to start another one, but I go caught up in my next activity.

Complete a cross stitch kit

I have done two! I did my little hot air balloon one, and also recently completed a garden one that I’ve just framed. I’ve started work on my bunny one.

Go to the movies

I don’t think we’ve gone to the movies since I made the original post. But there’s nothing we really want to watch.

I don’t think I did too badly. I kept it small as I knew I probably wouldn’t do too much, and I chose most activities based on what I already love. This was fun to make though, maybe I’ll make one for spring!

Weekend Snapshots (Sep 8-9)

Hello! I feel like returning to my roots a little with some posts, and sharing more about my everyday life. I have lots of fun with my other posts talking about food, DIY, makeup or what have you, but I feel like I’m running out of creative juice for those kind of posts. So, let’s talk about what happened over the weekend! After all, this blog is about my life.

Before I keep going, thank you so much for all the well wishes from my last post! We’re so excited about this pregnancy, and we love being able to go on this journey. I can’t even imagine what life will be like in a year, or even 6 months from now!

On to the post.

Ultrasound

ultrasound

I had last Friday off because we had our 12 week ultrasound. I love being able to see baby during these! When the technician first took a look, we saw our little baby doing a headstand. They were literally upside down just hanging out. As the appointment went on though, they flipped around and started laying down instead. We even saw their little legs and arms! It was very exciting. Afterwards, I shared the photo all over my social media. Now that I’m 12 weeks along, we’re happy to let everyone know that we’re expecting.

New Cookbooks

recipe books

I’d been eyeing up these cool cookbooks from Kmart for a while. They’re each only $5 and each come packed with so many recipes! We grabbed 5 of them since they were cheap, and have already tried a few of them. They’re really good! We tried Pumpkin Soup with Lentils, Rice Pudding, Burrito Bowl, and we’re eyeing up more  to do.

Walking Around

Rory’s sisters were down in town for the day on Saturday, so we had lunch together. Afterwards, we were walking around town for a while checking out shops. I normally am fine with walking around for a few hours, I’ll get a bit tired but nothing too major. Except, I haven’t done this much walking since being pregnant. I got wiped out pretty early. Once we got back home, I crashed and had a two hour nap. #pregnantlife

Spiderman Game

So this last bit is random, but I have been having so much fun with this game! I was a big fan of the Spiderman 2 game on PS2 cause it was so silly and fun. This new Spiderman game reminds me so much of it and I’ve already spent way too many hours on it. It’s all I want to do.

That’s it for my weekend! I wanted to do some house cleaning, but I ended up playing games for hours instead. What did you guys do?

Angela.
