I don’t really know where to start with this one. I have only watched it once for a university class, and I still can’t make heads or tails of it. This movie gets raved about a lot, and there were parts I did like about it, but I don’t think it really deserves the universal praise. I’m sure we all have a film that we don’t understand why everyone else likes it. This was just weird…and really long. Even when there’s dialogue, and the bit with HAL kicks in, I was still bored, and couldn’t pay attention. The film is meant to be a visual thing sure, but I don’t know, something about this movie just rubs me the wrong way.
Maybe it’s space baby.
Nightmare fuel?
Anyway, this is my pick for this prompt. It’s a highly rated movie, but I just don’t get it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
What do you guys think of 2001: A Space Odyssey?
What’s a film that you think is overrated?
Also! Just a quick update, tomorrow (I’ll be starting the process tonight though) I’m moving to a self hosted site, so things will be changing! Hopefully I do it right, but who knows? Maybe I’ll mess it up, maybe it’ll go smoothly, maybe I’ll really mess up and be gone for a few days. Who knows?? We’ll all just have to wait and see!
Do I need to explain why she’s a favourite at this point? Emma is clever, outspoken, passionate, stylish, and an amazing role model. She has also been in numerous movies since Harry Potter, as well as getting involved in other projects like being a UN Goodwill Ambassador, setting up “Our Shared Shelf”, and so much more!
Amy Poehler
Another actress and general role models that I often talk about. Amy both acted and wrote a huge part of Parks and Recreation which is one of the best shows ever! She’s also so hilarious, witty, and such an inspiration! You guys know my favourite quote of hers, from her biography Yes Please: “Good for her, not for me”.
Anna Kendrick
There’s just something about Anna. I’ve always liked her since Pitch Perfect. Then she showed up in a lot of other musicals (Into the Woods, The Last Five Years), and I liked her in those two. Also, she’s kinda weird in that ‘relatable’ way, but she doesn’t get on my nerves like Jennifer Lawrence does (I like her too, but lately not so much and I can’t pinpoint why).
There you have it! Three of my favourite actresses.
Okay, so I don’t have just one favourite actors. I have many. So let’s just talk about them. Also, a lot of them will come from television shows more than movies, as I just watch more tv than movies.
Also, my favourite actors aren’t always based solely on acting skills or other talents. To me, if they’re also super nice and genuine, that immediately makes them more endearing.
Anyway, let’s get into it.
Chris Pratt
You guys will primarily know him from Parks and Recreation and Guardians of the Galaxy. He’s very funny and charasmatic, even before he get super buff. He can french braid hair, he’s super genuine and nice, he’s always visiting children hospitals, how can you not love the guy? Plus, he’s a good actor on top of all this.
Donald Glover
I primarily know him as Troy from Community. But he’s been in an endless amount of shows, both live action and animation. He’s been in a handful of films, and is set to star in a few upcoming ones like the Han Solo spin off (as Lando), and The Lion King live action remake (as Simba!!). He is also talented in the musical world as Childish Gambino. As far as anyone is concerned, he’s a triple threat. So besides all this talent already, he’s also insanely funny!
So anyway, here’s two songs from him. A classic one, and his latest one which threw me when I first heard it, but now I’m into it.
This got a bit off-topic.
Lin Manuel-Miranda
Literal cutie pie and genius. You guys will know him off Hamilton, but I remember seeing him in House when he guest starred. He’s also guest starred in a few other shows like How I Met Your Mother. He’s also incredibly kind, aware of issues, and seems like such a fun person to be around.
John Oliver
Another Community alum. He’s also appeared in a number of other shows and movies both in live action and animation. He is just so funny, and incredibly quick-witted. Have you guys seen Last Week Tonight? I can’t stop watching that show and that’s the only way I ever really know what’s going on in the US politically. As a comedian and political satirist, he strikes me as someone who won’t bullshit you, on top of being hysterical. He has a very self-effacing humour and often mocks himself as well as everyone else which is just fun.
So there you go. A number of favourite actors of mine who I like for a whole bunch of reasons. They are just talented, funny, and seem really nice, which is enough for me to brand them as favourites.
I really wanted to like this movie. The trailer looked fun, the aesthetic and costumes all looked great, and it starred some really good actors. But..it just fell flat. To me anyway.
It started off really good! We got to see backstories of each of the villains, and how they ended up in Belle Reve, which is a maximum security prison where all our superheros send the bad guys they defeat. But as the film went on, everything felt muddled. I felt confused as to what they were meant to be doing, and why should we care about it? I also feel like they featured the Joker a lot in the trailer, when he was just a minor character in the film. He literally was in it for like only 10 minutes. As for Enchantress, I’m not really sure what to think of her. Sure she looked cool, but that was it. For me this movie had a lot of style, but not any substance. I mean yes, it’s a superhero movie, it doesn’t need to have a loot of meat to it, but this just left me bored..and confused.
However, it did have an amazing soundtrack!!
But overall, I came out of the movie feeling disappointed, the movie was kind of forgetful for me. I had to read the wiki of the plot to even remember what was happening.
What do you guys think of Suicide Squad?
What’s a movie that disappointed you guys?

So I finished the A-Z Challenge last week. I started it all the way back in early April and posted on this twice a week till mid-July. I had so much fun trying to think of what shows to recommend for each letter of the alphabet. As a wrap up post, I’m going to list all the shows I talked about!
Day 17 – The Best Movie You Saw During the Last Year
Moana
So I saw this twice in the theatre. That’s how much I liked it. I was vaguely aware of it when it came out as kids in my centre started talking about it. I looked up a few songs and I was hooked.
I have heard this countless times and I still love it. I also love Alessia Cara’s version too!
Then I went and saw the movies and felt so many emotions. I don’t know why it made me feel all the things, but it did. I even cried in it. I have since watched it a few more times and I love to sing along. I still hear the songs in my centre every now and then, and honestly I sing as loud as the kids do. Even the babies love it 🙂
I feel like I talk about animations a lot, but I can’t help it. They’re so good, and I watch a lot of them.
Have you guys seen Moana?
What’s the best movie you’ve seen during the last year?
This movie was so much fun you guys! I love the movies where they takes themselves a little less seriously. It was light, funny and filled with action and laughs. It made for a good night actually. I could totally see myself seeing this again!
It did feel a little like an Iron Man spin off as well though, Robert Downey Jr is making cameos all over the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But I really enjoyed the film overall. I like this new spiderman, he actually looks like he could go to high school/college. Plus I like that they included a lot more school things in this movie, it feels like a cross between a teen movie and a superhero movie.
Anyway, I’ve gushed about this long enough. Definitely check it out!
This was the film that made me give up on the whole Divergent movie series. Which really annoyed me as Insurgent was my favourite book out of the series.
I enjoyed reading Divergent, but Insurgent was by far my favourite. It ramped up the stakes, and I got completely lost and invested in the book. (I wasn’t a fan of the third book though). I was okay with the first Divergent film, and thought that Insurgent would be a fun watch. I was wrong. From the first time I saw the trailer, I was just confused. What the hell is that box with all the tubes and such? The whole time I was watching this movie I’m sure I had a perplexed look on my face. They veered miles from the original source material, and I didn’t get lost in the world like I did reading the story.
I mean, this whole series still feels like a copy of the Hunger Games a little, but at least the books were enjoyable and engaging. Can’t say the same about the movie versions.
What’s your least favourite book adaptation?
