30 Days of Blogging Challenge – Day 29

Welcome back to the blogging challenge, we made it to Day 29, Maggie and Cheila! One more day to go in the prompt! Day 29 is about my favourite social media sites.

So, there’s only really a few social media sites I’m active on. That’s my blog, right here, where you can always find me as I never seem to leave. This is my top favourite, I’ve been on it for the least amount of time, but it has become the best social media site for me. I love everything about blogging, and I can see myself continuing to do it for a long time.

The other is Instagram. I love sharing photos (obviously, since my blog is heavy with them), which is why I love this platform! I normally only post once a day, usually with a recent image that’s been on my mind, or something as I reminisce and look through old pictures, I’ll post one of those instead. I normally do this during my lunch break at home. Also, I love looking through everyone else’s photos!!

30 Days of Blogging Challenge – Day 27

Maggie and Cheila, my challenge and blogging buddies, we’re almost at the end! Welcome to Day 27! Today’s prompt is about a challenge I overcame.

I have overcome many challenges, (some were due to luck, others due to working hard, a lot were due to both) but this post asks for one in particular. So let’s strap in for a story time.

In November 2014, I had completed my one year, full time Graduate of Diploma teaching course. I was now a qualified early childhood teacher, rearing to go and optimistic about getting a job. I was currently working as a reliever, and was already struggling to make my half of the bills for Rory and I. I had opted to go back to being a poor student and move out of home to be closer to campus. This put more pressure on Rory, as he had to make up for what I couldn’t. Bless him though, he never complained. It got to the point where all I could pay was my half of rent, power and internet, and everything else was up to him. I didn’t buy anything that whole year pretty much, and I saved nothing.

I applied for everything, every job listing for any Early Childhood job. I applied to around 20, heard back from 10, and got to the interview stage to at least 4. One let me know straight away that they decided to go with someone more qualified. Okay I guess that’s fair. Many of the ones who emailed back had the same response. They decided to go with someone with more experience. By this stage, it was January, I was starting to dip into savings now I didn’t get government assistance as university had finished. Rory and I started thinking about Plan B. Maybe we would need to move back to one of our parents’ houses until I was able to get a stable job.

Finally, in February, (my savings were getting lower, our lease was about to expire, and I was ready to full on freak out ) I got to the interview stage for two more centres. I made sure that they were asking for new teachers, or graduate teachers, those who didn’t ask for someone with much experience. As they were both for covering maternity leave, they were happy to take a chance with someone new. I loved the first centre, it was a mixed age group, ranging from under 1s to 5. I spent an afternoon there as a trial, I got along with the teachers and the kids and I was in love with the place. The interview went great, they told me that I was one of 3 out of 20 candidates who got to the interview stage. I left feeling great. The second centre was small too. It was in town, and also mixed age. They had a separate area for the under 2’s. I remember being shown around the centre, and meeting all the teachers, everyone was lovely, and the kids were noisy and happy. I was again terrified in the interview, I had read up a little on the place, and due to the many other interviews I had, I knew what sort of questions to expect, and had examples and answers at the read. I left that interview also feeling great.

During a relieving job, I got a call from centre 1. They loved me, but had chosen someone else, I was very close though and they wished me all the luck. I was shattered, I thought I had nailed that interview. I went back on the floor, thinking about asking mum and dad if it was cool that we crashed there for a bit. I’m sure it could be worse, but to me, this was a low point. In my next break, I had a missed call from centre 2. I expected another sorry, but instead the manager said that they had loved me, that I seemed really enthusiastic, I had thoughtful answers to their questions and I would be a perfect fit in the centre. When could I come in to start? I literally screeched with joy, which alarmed her, but then she laughed. I had a job!! A job I’m still in over two years later.

Then, there was our living situation. This is when luck steps in again, we decided to look at a place near town. The flat wasn’t ideal, but it was perfect for two people, and bigger than the bedsit we were in previously. We jumped on it, and moved in on the day our lease ran out in the previous place.

So there we go, that’s a lot rambling. But there’s a challenge I overcame. A combination of luck, perseverance, determination, with a dash of freaking out. I’m aware that everyone has challenges they overcome, others may be more severe than mine. But I wanted to share my story.  I’d love to read a post, or a comment about a challenge you guys overcame. Celebrate the victories, both big and small 🙂

30 Days of Blogging Challenge – Day 26

Welcome to Day 26 of the Blogging Challenge. I’ve been doing this all month with Maggie and Cheila! Today’s prompt is about People I Admire and Why.

Okay, well you guys know that I admire my family. I literally talk about them every other day, they’re the topic of a lot of my Photo Challenges. And guess, what? I’m going to talk about them again. But I’ll keep it short, and then I might talk about some celebrity type people I admire, to shake things up.

Dad and Mum. I admire them together and individually. I admire that they are still together after 30 odd years together. I admire that they raised three well-adjusted (for the most part) children. I admire how hard they worked for us to finish school and get into university. I admire the lessons they taught us, and the endless love they have for us.

My siblings, Jo and Andrew. I admire them both for different reasons. I admire my older sister for how strong, smart and clever she is (especially at Art), and I’ve always looked up to her (literally, girl is an Amazon). I admire that you put up with my many questions, and our late night chats about anything and everything. I admire my younger brother for his smarts, knowledge and weirdness. I always thought I was the weird one, but you always found a way to top me, as was your job as the youngest sibling.

Rory (You all knew he was going to show up). I admire your knowledge and skills when it comes to directions, cars, computers, and all things I know nothing about. I admire your unwavering support in all my many interests, especially when it comes to blogging. I admire your honesty in all things, even when it’s to let me know that you’re trying to watch your show but I’m rambling about something completely random. I admire that you always want to make me happy, to motivate me, and push me a little out of my comfort zone. I’m not the same girl I was when I met you, I’ve changed for the better 🙂

Now that we have finished the family portion, let’s talk about people I admire who I have never met!

I mean, duh. Emma Watson is the picture of grace, feminism, smarts, beautiful, amazing, wonderful, kind human being. She also was Hermione and Belle, two clever ladies who had the biggest hearts, along with their super brains.

Both Amy and Leslie are both incredible people I admire. They are clever, quick witted, ambitious, positive and amazing people. I strive to be as awesome as both Amy and the fictional character she played.

Finally, Lin Manuel Miranda. I admire his brain, his talent, his creativity, his sunshine personality, and everything about him. He is such a force of nature, and Hamilton is proof of that. As is his many other works, but Hamilton is what introduced me to him. “There’s a million things I haven’t done but just you wait”

Also, I’m cautiously optimistic, as my last comments have been going through. Hopefully all is well.

That’s all for people I admire! Who do you guys admire?

Angela.

30 Days of Blogging Challenge – Day 25

Here we are at Day 25, I’ve been doing this all month with Maggie and Cheila! We’re nearing the end of the challenge. Today’s prompt is about Things I Would Still Like to Learn.

Sounds easy enough, this will probably be similar to goals I have set for myself, as well as some random thoughts. I also thought I’d include random images, cause you guys know I like having pictures, even when sometimes they weren’t taken by me.

I Would Still Like to Learn:

  • How to improvise meals – I’m great at following recipes and instructions, but if you just give me ingredients and say “Go for it”, I will look at you blankly.
Image result for improvise meals
Whatever this is looks nice, I think its guacamole? That’s what Google says anyway
  • How to look after a car – I’m still in the process of driving more frequently, but that’s getting rarer and rarer, but I still want to know how to look after a car. So far, Rory has shown me how to change the oil (which I’ve already forgotten), and how to fill up the tank (which I have done successfully a few times!!).
Image result for car gas
I still hate the smell of gas
  • Tagalog – I always say I want to make an effort on this, but I never do. Last I checked Duolingo doesn’t have a course in tagalog. Any other apps you guys can recommend?

Why no Tagalog option Mr Owl?
  • This is more relearn, as I haven’t touched any in a while. But the ukulele, piano and flute. I really want to relearn all those skills.
Image result for music score
At least I can still read music I guess
  • How to swim – I mean I can kinda float for a while, and I’m not too bad. But I’d like to learn proper techniques. Plus its an exercise I actually really enjoy.
Image result for swimming pool
I love swimming!
  • How to properly use a sewing machine – I know how useful it is and what it can do. I just don’t know how to use it properly.

Help.
  • How to motivate myself to clean every weekend – Like seriously, it’s getting ridiculous. Look at our carpet. It needs vacumming…

Help again, someone motivate me.
  • Finally, I still have to learn not to let my optimism run rampant. I was starting to daydream about owning that house we put an offer in on, and we just heard back that the seller has gone with another offer (sigh). It would have been way too convenient for us to get the first home we ever went for I suppose. I’m kinda bummed, but now we know how the whole process works. We just need to wait until we see another house that we can see as a future home.

That’s all I can think of for now.

What’s something you guys still want to learn?

Angela.

30 Days of Blogging Challenge – Day 24

Welcome back to the blogging challenge, we made it to Day 24, Maggie and Cheila!

So, Day 24 is about Handy Tips I’ve Learned.

I’ve learned a lot of tips and tricks, but I forget a lot of them just as easily. I’ll do my best to list them here.

  • When getting dressed in winter, place your jeans or top on the heater (but please don’t burn the house down, do it safely!), so when you finally pull off pyjamas, you can get into nice, toasty clothes 😀
  • Don’t pop pimples! They scar, and then takes ages to go away. What I was told to do, is get a cloth, soak it in hot (not boiling!) water, then place it on top of the pimple and press down for a bit. Do this for one or two nights, and it gets smaller and goes away in a few days. This at least works for me, but may not work for everyone.
  • Do dishes every night. Seriously, don’t ever leave it, cause then you suddenly have a mountain. But doing it every night means you never run out of dishes, and it’s just a small hill to tackle once a day.
  • Plan everything! It helps me to stay organised and stay on track, I love my calendar, both my wall one and my phone one. I did this back at school and uni too, I always noted down when papers or tests were due, so I could plan when to start studying or start assignments.
  • When it comes to motivation, music helps a lot. Especially for workouts, or doing household chores. Find a song that gets you ‘hyped’ (for me that’s the Hamilton soundtrack ahaha), and then do it.
  • To squeeze out as much as you can from toothpaste tubes, roll the end of it.

That’s literally all I can think of right now. I’m sure I have more, but suddenly having to write them down, I’m drawing a blank.

Let me know any tips or tricks you guys have in the comments below. I’d love to know them!

30 Days of Blogging Challenge – Day 23

Man, this challenge has proved tougher than I thought, coming up with an extra post every day for a month has been a lot of work. But it’s also been a great exercise, and I have been loving it, especially now that we come into the last week! I’m doing this alongside, Maggie and Cheila (guys we can do this!!)

Okay, so Day 23 is about My Inspirations.

So, I feel like I’ve talked about this before, especially in certain awards. And also a little bit in yesterday’s challenge post. But hey, let’s talk about them again!

  • You guys. All of you here in our little blogging community are a huge inspiration to me! I love reading all the different posts you do, the ideas you come up with, the things you’re doing, the places you’re going, your experiences and stories…it all motivates me to keep going myself!
  • LifeofAngela. My blog motivates me to keep going. I love all the milestones its been going through, and I also just realised that I am scarily close to 500 followers. How, when, how did that happen?? I need to think of another way to say thank you! You guys are amazing!!
  • The world. By that, I mean travelling. I have been lucky enough to do my fair share of travelling, but it feels like it’s never enough 😄 There’s so much to see out there in the world, and I would love to keep exploring. But while my heart screams yes, my annual leave and bank account gently tell me no. Ah well, one day. For now, I will look through blogs who show me sights from another land.
  • Family. I have a lovely, supportive and sweet family. They inspire me to keep going, to do my best, and to both plan for my future, and enjoy what I’m doing in the moment. I love going home to see them all.
  • Rory. My better half, he inspires me in all things I do. Being with him has made me a better person, and he tells me he feels the same way about me. I’m very happy to be in such a loving relationship, and it inspires me in everything I do.
  • Me!! I accidentally hit the exclamation key twice, but I’m going to keep it there. As much as all these other points and people inspire me, it’s up to myself to take all that and run with it. It’s up to me to decide what I do,  and where I go. I’m happy to consider myself an inspiration, as many years ago, I wouldn’t have had the confidence to say it.

Let’s end it on a motivational poster I found

What are some of your inspirations?

Angela.
