Hourglass Vanish Foundation Stick Review

I don’t normally do beauty review posts, but I thought it would be fun to try doing one. I recently splurged on buying the Hourglass Vanish Seamless Foundation Stick, and decided to share my thoughts.

hourglass

I’d had my eye on this for a while. I had heard about it from Marzia, and general positive reviews from around  the internet. As with any beauty product, just because it works for someone else, doesn’t mean it’ll work well for you. But I’ve had a good run with products recommended by Marzia, so I decided to at least try it out. In store, I got matched to my shade (Ivory), and the lovely worker even agreed to fully apply it so I could see what I thought. I really liked it! So since I had saved up already, I decided to get it!

hourglass 02

I’ve never used a foundation stick before, but this one was really great to use. It goes on really smooth and fluidly. The foundation’s formula is very concentrated, so you don’t need to use that much. Even though it’s quite concentrated, it feels very light on my face.

hourglass 03

I apply a few dots all over my face and use a beauty blender to spread out the coverage. I used my Real Techniques expert face brush for a bit, but I find that a blender is easier to work with. I also apply more where I want to conceal, such as under my eyes. The foundation looks and feels quite natural, while still offering a lot of coverage. It has a kind of dewy finish, and lasts really well throughout the day.

hourglass 04

All in all, I’m really happy I splurged and got this! It’s definitely high-end, but to me it was worth it. I hear a lot of praise for this foundation, but some people do have issues. It has been suggested to me to apply an oil before this foundation, to help smooth it out more, but I haven’t had any issues. If you’re able to splurge on this, I say go for it. If not, there’s heaps of amazing dupes out there too!

Have you guys every tried this foundation?

Romwe Haul

So I first heard about this from my good friend Siyana over at Siyana Online. She shared the site, Romwe, and some things she had bought from it. I immediately went to check them out and fell in love with some things myself. The main thing I loved about this site, is that they have an Australian site. Why is this important? Well they’re selling Fall & Winter items! I love ASOS, but they mostly cater to the Northern Hemisphere, so it’s hard for me to find things I like and can actually wear anytime soon! That being said, the items can be a bit of a hit or miss situation.

So, here’s what I got.

Rose Applique Drawstring Skinny Pants

I fell in love with these pants because of the rose patch. It’s so cute, I also don’t really have sweats that often so I thought I could get these. They are really warm and have a nice fit, but they’re waaaay too long on me. I always have this issue since I’m so very short. If I was longer I think this would be perfect. I’ll still keep these as lounging around pants though.

Wide Striped Sweater

I have a thing for patterns, I think I’ve mentioned it before. I liked the colours on this sweater and it looked comfy. The material is knit, so it’s a bit itchy, but not too bad. If I wear something underneath, I’m fine all day. It’s really warm though, and it falls right at my hips which I like.

Cat Faced Print Sweatshirt

I love this sweater! The material is soft and so comfy! It’s long, but not too long. Perfect for both lounging at home and wearing at work all day. The cat print is also adorable, so it’s just a bonus. This is by far, my most favourite sweater at the moment!

romwe haul

That’s all I got this round, as I didn’t want to go overboard. It took around 2 and a half weeks to get to me, and they were all really well packaged. I’m pretty happy with everything I got, and I’ll definitely be checking them out again.

Have you guys heard of Romwe?

Morning Skincare Routine (Collab with Emily Knows Makeup)

Emily approached me on Instagram about doing a collab. I love doing posts with fellow bloggers, and we decided to talk about skincare routine. I haven’t done a post like this before, and while I’ve loosely talked about it before, I thought it would be fun to do a full post. I’ll be talking about my morning routine, and Emily will be talking about her evening routine over on her blog.

Fun fact, we both assumed the other was based in the US, as we’re used to most bloggers being based there (or in Europe lol). However, Emily is in Australia, and I’m in New Zealand, so our skincare routines are based around the wintry season we’re currently in. Anyway, let’s get into it!

morning routine

My skincare routine has always been simple. I used to do nothing for the longest time, but I’m slowly building up a routine. Very basic, but it means I can do it quite quickly which is great as I’m always rushing in the mornings.

Cleanser

cleanser

I’ve only tried a handful of cleansers, but this one has by far been my favourite. Since using this cleanser, I’ve noticed less breakouts and my skin is pretty well-behaved. That’s a win in my book. It doesn’t foam when I use it (I like playing with foam), but other than that I have no actual complaints. My face doesn’t feel dry after using the cleanser, it just feels fresh and smooth. Once you find a cleanser that works for you, you want to stick with it. At least that’s my thought process.

Serum

serum

This is another one that I’ve tried a bunch of. Most of them are from previous subscription boxes. The one that I’m currently using and have used the longest is this one. Derma E Vitamin C Concentrated Serum. A mouthful of a title. Anyway, after having cleaning my face, I like rubbing this into my skin. It just feels (and smells) really nice. Also, I was never really sure what the point of a serum was. So I looked up the marketing information of this serum. Apparently it’s a skincare product that goes deeper into your skin than a moisturizer. So it aims to brighten skin, minimize fine lines and wrinkles and improve the appearance of uneven skin tone. I will say that my skin does look brighter after a few months of using this. Maybe it’s a placebo effect, but I do love this serum!

Moisturizer

moisturizer

Finally, I end on a moisturizer. I have always liked this Aveeno moisturizer. I use it on my face daily and I feel refreshed afterwards. This is especially needed in winter as I love having scalding hot showers and baths.

That’s my whole routine! Three steps and I’m done. Then I start on my makeup and whatever else I need to do in the morning.

Be sure to check out Emily’s blog and see what her skincare routine is in the evening!

What’s your current skincare routine like?

OGX Nourishing & Coconut Milk Shampoo

I really liked this shampoo! Possibly because it makes my hair smell like coconut, and I like coconut related products. As for how it helped my hair, it definitely helped make it feel fresh and shiny. But my hair can run quite oily, so I didn’t use it that much. But I don’t think you’re meant to use that much shampoo when you wash your hair anyway.

Do I recommend? Yes, especially if you like coconut!

Would I repurchase? Maybe one day, but I like trying different shampoos.

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water

I normally use the wipes version, but as I run out of the wipes in under a month, I decided to try the water version. This lasted so much longer! It still does a great job of removing makeup and not hurting my eyes.

Do I recommend? Yes!

Would I repurchase? Already have.

Too Faced Hangover Primer

I only bought the travel size, so I’m not surprised this didn’t last too long. As this is another coconut related product, I already loved it. It felt like a really nice moisturizer to me. To be honest, I don’t know how great it was for prepping my skin for makeup though. I thought it did first, but after continued use, I’m not really sure. As a moisturizer though, it’s great for helping my face feel fresh! Especially after all our plane trips lately.

Do I recommend? Yes, it’s definitely something you should try!

Would I repurchase? Probably, but I want to try some other primers too.

Johnson’s Baby Shampoo

I use this for washing my makeup brushes. It’s effective, gentle, and also pretty cheap in comparison to other makeup tool washing/cleaning products.

Do I recommend? Yes!

Would I repurchase? Already have!

Derma E Overnight Peel

I received a small sample size of this product a while back from a subscription box. I used it once a week for many months, or if I was having a breakout. You put it on before you sleep, and wash it off in the morning. If I had a massive pimple, this helped calm it down the day after, and it would go away soon after that.

Do I recommend? Yes, you should try it!

Would I repurchase? I bought a full-size version!

Bb Thickening Hair Spray

I wanted to try a volumizing hair spray, as my hair often struggles with that. This was recommended to me by a shop assistant. I don’t know if it added much volume to my hair, but it did add a little. My main struggles with it though is it had a bit of a strong ‘alcohol’ish scent to it.

Do I recommend? Not really.

Would I repurchase? Nope.

What products have you finished lately?

Five Favourite Outfits from Japan

Bet you thought I was done with my Japan posts lol. I’ve decided to have my last one be about some of my favourite photos and outfits from our trip. I brought a big bunch of clothes and put together a combination of comfy outfits that were perfect since we were always out and about everyday.

Stripes and Shorts

meguro river 03

meguro river 06

On this particular day it was really hot. I’m talking 28 degrees. Heat that I’m not used to and spent a lot of time complaining about on our downtime. This definitely called for a summery outfit. I did bring my floral dress I love, but it has a habit of blowing up even in the smallest breezes, and I didn’t want to risk that. A red and white stripy shirt, denim shorts, black sneakers and a ponytail seemed like a good choice. Perfect for walking around all day. The red also went nicely with flowers that popped up on our walk to Meguro River.

Grey Days and Black Overalls

shinjuku garden 06

shinjuku garden 09

While we had some scorcher days in Japan, we also had mild ones. One Sunday, it was overcast all day and the occasional showers would come. However, it was still like 22 degrees, so it just made the day mild and pleasant. This was one of the few times I could wear my long black overalls, so I took the opportunity. Underneath, I wore my grey Superdry shirt, and paired them all with my trusty sneakers. I got a lot of use out of those sneakers in Japan. This outfit ended up being perfect for our trip to the garden. My overalls have a million pockets, so all the pamphlets, paper and rubbish I accumulated could just sit in my pockets.

Exploring in a Blue Jumpsuit

arashiyama bamboo grove 02

arashiyama 01

I bought this jumpsuit impulsively a few days before the Japan trip. I figured it’d come in handy for warmer days, and it did. It had been dreary colder days in Tokyo at the beginning of our trip, but once we went to Kyoto, the weather did a 180 and we were thrown in 30 degrees weather. The jumpsuit is made out of really breathable material so I was very comfy and not stuffy. The top dips a bit lower than I’m comforatble with so I threw my stripy shirt on underneath. I really like how this outfit came together. It was comfortable for the super hot day, and still pleasant as it cooled down into the evening.

Blue All Over

wizarding world 02

As you can see, it was another crazy hot day here. I originally wasn’t going to wear my blue cardi, but I always like to err on the side of caution. My overpacking habits are hard to override. In the end though, it all worked out. I did notice that all my clothes I chose were blue. Most of my closet is blue actually. It’s just a nice colour. Anyway, I was very comfy and not too hot during our day at Universal Studios. I do wish I had something yellow though since I am a proud Hufflepuff member, but I don’t actually think I own anything yellow.

Rainy Days and Combat Boots

ghibli museum 02

As mentioned earlier, our first few days in Tokyo were rainy and a bit cold. The lowest temperature we had was around 13, which isn’t that bad when you’re used to New Zealand weather. This was the only day we had to bring rainjackets and big boots as it did rain decently. The weather didn’t dampen our moods at all though, but I’m still glad I did decide to bring these items in the end otherwise I would have been very cold.

There you have it. Some of my favourite outfits from our trip to Japan! We did end up having a whole range of weather on some days, but most were quite warm. Something we got used to, before flying back to New Zealand and landing in winter. I miss those 28 degree days now that we’re stuck in everlasting wind and rain!

What’s In My Travel Makeup Bag?

As regular readers may know, I’m heading off to Japan soon. Since my last big trip, my makeup routine (and collection) has grown a bit. So now the question of what makeup to bring on this trip requires a lot more consideration. While deciding all this, I thought it would be a fun post. I want to have enough makeup for my usual everyday look, and this means bringing at least one of each item. I want to have options but I also don’t want to get too crazy with what I bring. So, here’s what I’ve wound up with.

travel makeup bag 01

Here’s what I’m bringing for my base makeup. These are all the products I use for my everyday look. The Too Faced Hangover Primer, Bare Minerals Foundation, and Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer make up my base makeup. These are all tried and true products for me, so they’re definitely making the trip. Finally, I wanted to bring my Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder. I also wanted to bring some extras as well. I chose the Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer and the Becca Pressed Powder Highlighter.

travel makeup bag 02

Moving on, here’s the eye makeup I plan on bringing. For eyebrows, my Maybelline MasterBrow Pro Palette. I wanted to bring an eye palette as well, so I chose my Colour Pop Double Entendre. It’s great for everyday wear, and has lots of warm colours to choose from. I went back and forth on which mascara to bring, and landed on my Tarte Lights, Camera and Lashes 4-in-1. It’s a mini size and perfect for travel. I also wanted to bring my Tarte Double Take Eyeliner, even if I don’t end up using eyeliner on the trip, I like having it there.

travel makeup bag 03

I also wanted to bring at least two lipsticks. I settled on my NYX Soft Matte in London as a neutral colour, and my favourite Tarte lip paint in Grand as a brighter colour. I also had to bring my Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray.

travel makeup bag 04

All that’s left are the tools I want to bring. My Real Techniques miracle sponge was a must. As for the brushes, I had quite a few in mind. For face brushes, I’m bringing my Real Techniques expert face brush, buffing brush and contour brush. For eye brushes, I planned on bringing my Wet’n’Wild angled liner brush, crease brush and Real Techniques Base Shadow brush. I also am bringing some tweezers and my eyelash curler as a bonus.

travel makeup bag 05

That’s all of it! It may sound like a lot to me, but I do use most of them on a daily basis so I want them to come with me. There’s a few extras, but I did try to stick (mostly) to the essentials.

What makeup do you bring when you go travelling?

Summer to Autumn Transition OOTD (Collab with AyR Galaxy)

This is a collab with the amazing Rossy at AyR Galaxy! We have wanted to do a collab together for a while, and decided on a transitional OOTD. By that I mean, we’re sharing outfits to transition us into the new season! For me, I’m moving from Summer to Autumn. For Rossy, she’s moving from Winter to Spring. Be sure to check out her post as well! Here’s a little sneak peek of hers:

wintertospring_ootd_levis_bag

I’m loving the blush pink colours! Perfect for Spring! For my side of the world, we’re moving into the cooler seasons. Autumn has already begun rearing it’s head. The sun is setting earlier, and it’s a lot colder and rainier. However, it’s not freezing…yet.

For my transitional outfit, I’ve included one of my summer staples. The denim shorts! I mean, I do wear this constantly, even now. I just love them. This time though, I’ve added stockings and my new combat boots as my legs get cold. I also included a slightly warmer blue sweater and my favourite pompom beanie.

autumn ootd 03

All this left meant that I was able to get around the day without feeling cold. It was also quite comfy. These combat boots are seriously my favourite things at the moment. I can walk around in them all day and not feel sore!

autumn ootd 04

As always blue is my favourite colour and I always wear some form of the colour. This outfit actually reminds me of one of my older OOTD’s last year when it was moving into spring!

Believe it or not, this top is different. It’s the same colour, but it has shorter sleeves and is a bit thicker. It’s my colder blue sweater! Also, look at the light difference in these photos! They were both taken around 6pm, just 7 months apart.

autumn ootd 06

So there you go! An OOTD post for moving into the wintry seasons. Add more layers, boots and a hat!

Tarte Lipstick Collection

My favourite lipstick for a while has been my Tarte lip paint in Grand. I got it from my Tarte Treasure Box on my birthday and I’ve loved it ever since. In a recent Tarte sale, I decided to buy some more of the lip paints. They had two little gift boxes, and I couldn’t decide between the two, so I got both!

tarte lippies 01

Tarteist Lip Trio

So this is a travel size lip kit, containing two tarteist lip paints and a lip liner. Each colour is a shade of pink. I don’t have much pink lipsticks in general, so I wanted to try it.

The lip crayon is in bubbly (pink berry). The lipstick with the black lid is a quick dry matte lip paint in epic (pink raspberry), while the lipstick with the gold lid is a glossy lip paint in token (pink nude).

tarte lippies 06

I used the liner with Epic, and I think it’s appropriately named. I really like this colour on me! It’s quite a dark pink, almost red. It was easy to apply and felt smooth on my lips. It dried matte quite fast. There was a lot of colour pay off after just one coat which I really love about these lipsticks. As for the lip liner, it glided on so smooth. I don’t often wear lip liners (cause I don’t have one), but I can definitely see the appeal of it. It makes lipstick look a lot cleaner and tidier.

tarte lippies 07

I look a bit sad in this, but it may be cause I don’t really like lip gloss. Token is a nice nude colour, but it does feel sticky due to it’s glossy nature. The colour itself is more nude than pink, and is similar to a lipstick I already have. I don’t think I’d use this one that much. I also didn’t use the liner for this, as it’s darker than the lip gloss and I didn’t like how it looked.

Tarteist Lip Wardrobe Volume II

Another travel kit, but this time it has two mini lip paints. Both are pinky again, but as I already got one mini set, I figured why not get another. The first is a quick dry matte lip paint in rose (rosy nude), and the second is a creamy matte lip paint in fomo (mauve).

tarte lippies 09

Rose reminded me a little of the one tarte lippie I already have Grand, but it’s a bit of a deeper colour. It worked nicely with the lip liner from the other set. Like with Epic, there was a lot of colour in just one coat. It did feel a little drying, but maybe that was cause I’d already tried a few other lipsticks and removed them. This one has more colour than other nude lipsticks I have, so I can see myself using this a little more.

tarte lippies 08

Finally out of the new lippies, we have Fomo. A hilarious name. I really like this one. It’s a mauve colour, so it’s more of a purple-y colour. It reminds me a little of my purple NYX lipstick in Bustier. As always, the colour is amazing with just one coat. It feels velvety smooth once applied and dries matte quickly. I already really like this one too.

Those are all of my new tarte lipsticks, but as I had it nearby, I wanted to try on my old favourite just for fun!

tarte lippies 10

Ah, Grand. I’ve had this since my birthday, and it’s the once I’ve worn the most out of all my lipsticks.

So now I have a lot of these mini lip paints, and I’m so happy! I have a range of nudes and more pinky tones. Between all of these and the rest in my lipstick collection, I don’t think I’ll need any more lipsticks any time soon haha!

tarte lippies 11

Have you tried any of Tarte’s lip paint products?

A Letterman Jacket OOTD

In a recent haul post, I shared with you all this pink and yellow jacket. I call it my Letterman jacket for many reasons. It looks like one, and also it has this blue A on the side which I like to think means it was made for me! So, I had to make an OOTD post with the jacket as the main attraction.

Here we go.

jacket ootd 01

I paired the jacket with simple items. Black singlet, blue shorts and black sneakers. With the jacket being quite colourful, I figured these would help it stand out more.

jacket ootd 02

This jacket is really thick. I don’t know what it’s lined with, but it keeps me very warm. I can definitely imagine myself living in it as the cooler seasons get…cooler.

jacket ootd 03

The colours of the jacket feel quite feminine. Pastel pink, yellow, and then white on the sleeves and accents. It’s really nice. I also love the patches on it! I don’t know if they’ve always been there or if someone has added them, but they look good. I would definitely add more if I find some I like.

jacket ootd 04

Also they have pockets. Anything without fake pockets is a win in my book. All in all, I’m so glad I came across this jacket. It was love at first sight, and I definitely plan on getting as much use out of it as I can!

jacket ootd 05

I went into the thrift store that day with the intention of just to browse. But once I saw the jacket, I knew I couldn’t leave without it!

What’s one of your favourite clothing items at the moment?
