2 Years of Blogging

2 Years of Blogging

I’ve officially had Life of Angela for 2 years now. It’s been through quite a few changes over that time. Last year, I celebrated with a cupcake. This year, I celebrate with a cookie.

2 years blog

My first year of blogging was very exciting for me. I first jumped into this world and community, and I was always full of ideas and couldn’t wait to get to work on my next post. I blogged daily, read everyone’s posts daily, and devoted a large chunk of my time (outside my day job), planning and preparing future posts. I even went self-hosted a few months in. I viewed blogging as my second full time job really.

blogiversary 05
Throwback to celebrating my one year blogiversary

This past year had me going in and out of blogging more than I thought I would. The first few months, I was still blogging almost daily and always felt so creative. Then I took my first break from blogging, when we went to Japan in May. Taking that step back from the blogging world, I since found it hard to get back into it. I went on and off for a while. Then we found out we were expecting, and I continued to step back. I’ve now stepped all the way back into my old wordpress blog, rather than continuing my self-hosted one.

2 years

Coming into another year of blogging, I’m not sure what to expect. I’m hoping to come to a middle ground. I don’t think I’ll get back to that mindset of blogging full-time, but I would like to stay active in the blogging world. For now, I’m enjoying blogging once or twice a week and just catching up.

Thanks to everyone who has stuck around and hung out with me on this blog for the past two years. It’s nice to return to this online community and chat, discuss interests, and just see what everyone is up to all over the globe.

Here’s to another year of blogging!

Have You Met Elena?

Introducing another lovely blogger friend…

Haaaaaaaaaaaaaave you met Elena?

Elena blogs over at Out’n’About. She’s from Switzerland, but is currently on an overseas exchange programme in Canada. She blogs about her art, travel, photography and so much more!

Here are Elena’s own words about her blog:

I launched OUT N’ ABOUT January 1st, 2017 to use it as my creative space. My goal here is to share my love for art, literature and travel, as well as creating discussions about society, philosophy and whatever else crosses my mind!

Blogging is still something I am experimenting with, there will always be things to learn and figure out, but most importantly, it is something I absolutely enjoy doing! Hopefully I could have caught your interest and brim over some of my enthusiasm through this blog!

I’ve been following Elena since early in my days of blogging, I remember when she announced she was heading off to Canada! She’s always been so lovely and supportive, and I always love to read about what she gets up to!

Here are some of my favourite posts of hers:

Elena often shares some through-provoking posts, and this is one of my favourites. She shares her thoughts on responsibilities as a girl (and human) about feminism and equality. You should definitely give it a read, as I can’t give it enough justice!

Elena has shared her photography with us on numerous occasions, and I really liked this one! On a recent cold trip to the frozen river, Elena snapped away and got some amazing shots like the one above.

Another thought piece that is very relevant to all of us. Social media. We often showcase the best side of ourselves online, keeping some of the more not so picturesque moments to ourselves. I really enjoyed reading Elena’s thoughts about this, and she really brings up some great points.

The title says it all really. Elena was lucky enough to go dog sledding, and shares with us all, her adventure!

Another photo series that I really loved! Elena edited her photos in a very unique way, focusing on the negative colours. They came out quite striking and different. I love how Elena is always experimenting with her photography!

I hope you guys do check out Elena’s blog! All of these posts I mentioned are amazing, but they’re just a small section of what you can find on Out’n’About!

How I Try Stay Organized with Daily Blogging

Hey all. As one of the few daily bloggers out there, I thought I would share more on how I keep myself and Life of Angela on track. I wrote a post a while back on how I plan my blog, and I wanted this to be a bit of an update on it. But first, I’ve been having issues with my reader the past few days. They didn’t show, which was confusing, as I was running around trying to get it fixed but nothing was happening. Then it was fixed all of a sudden. I don’t know. Anyway, glad that seems to be all over. Back to my crazy planning ways.

I use a calendar on my laptop to plan out my blog posts. It’s neater as I can erase and rewrite ideas and keep track of my posts. After that, I write it in my physical planner. On my planner, I keep track of the posts I write, and how they do. I also keep track of stats and all those numbers I try not to focus too much on. It’s quite a nice part of my day writing all this out though.

As I get inspired for ideas, I fill them in my digital planner. If there’s any events coming up, I try to think of post ideas based on them. I have them filled in a few weeks in advance. As time moves on, I shift and play around with ideas, deciding which ones I want to stick in around a week in advance.

During the weekend, I plan out photos, excursions, baking/craft activities, etc depending on when I want the post to go up. Sometimes they’re for the upcoming week, or if I have more time, they’re for the following week. I often plan my videos a few weeks in advance so I have time to edit. Once I have my photos, I do a little bit of editing. Then I start writing the posts for the week. I aim to write two-three during the weekend, but I’m often able to write four-five. During the rest of the week, I write the rest of the posts.

At the end of a month, I tend to look back at the posts and see what categories I’ve covered. If I feel like I’ve done too many of one, or not enough of another, then I change some post ideas around. This tends to cycle through each month, but that’s all I really do to keep organized and keep on blogging everyday!

This may seem a bit extreme considering I also work full time, and still want to be sociable every now and then offline, and honestly, it is a bit draining at times. I do have a love of blogging, but sometimes I do feel like I need to pull back a tad. I still have posts planned everyday till the end of the month, but I’m thinking of pulling back and just blogging on the weekdays from the next month. Just to give me time to devote to my many other hobbies, besides blogging.

What I’m Looking Forward to in Autumn

There’s a lot of spring posts coming up, so as always, I’m here with my own post on the season that I’m experiencing down here. Our summer is starting to wrap up, and we’re stepping into autumn.

So, here’s five things I’m looking forward to in Autumn!

  • Cooler Weather

I’m sure I’ll start complaining about the cold weather 6 months down the line, but this summer has been really intense for us! Our last summer barely hit us, but this one saw a few weeks of non stop really hot weather. Lots of sun and humidity which lost it’s novelty after a few days. So I’ve been enjoying these milder days before winter shows it’s head.

  • Lots of foliage

Photo by Peter Aschoff on Unsplash

I think we can all agree that nature always looks so amazing in autumn. All the oranges, reds and yellows only come around in Autumn, and I always look forward to it! I didn’t have my DSLR last autumn, so I’ll be planning lots of photo excursions!

  • Crunchy Leaves

Do I need to explain crunchy leaves?? There is just something so satisfying on stepping on a crunchy leaf. I get the same happy feelings inside like when I pop bubble wrap. It’s the little things right!

  • Apples and Pumpkins

Photo by Fischer Twins on Unsplash

I love summer fruits, they’re all fresh and perfect for smoothies. Autumn fruits and vegetables are perfect for baking and cooking! I have so many apple recipes that I love, and I’d love to try more baking recipes with pumpkin. Pumpkin soup is also a favourite autumn/winter meal, so filing and comforting!

  • Layers

I have a thing for layers. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, I love cardigans! Cardigans, sweaters, scarves, beanies, boots, all that jazz. I can take advantage of the cooler weather to wear these, but not be overwhelmed yet by the freezing weather of winter.

That’s what I’m looking forward to in Autumn! What are you looking forward in the coming season, whether it’s Spring or Autumn?

One Year of Blogging! (+2800 followers!)

As the title says, today, I have been blogging for a whole year! I posted my first post Hi, on March 6 last year. To celebrate, I bought a little celebratory cupcake from my favourite bakery! So scattered in this post, enjoy this photoshoot of my and my cupcake.

blogiversary 01

For this post, I thought it would be fun to go through a highlight reel of sorts of my blog!

When I started blogging, I talked about my recent travel adventures, first to Sydney, and then to Peru. In April, I branched out into talking about my life, more specifically my recent wedding! I started baking again, and since then, I’ve never stopped.

blogiversary 02

In May, I reached 500 followers. I started the A-Z Challenge series, where I talked about a television series I liked, starting from A and ending with Z. I also began sharing my weekends with all of you, and continued making my blog more personal.

My blogging hit an extreme during this month. For the whole of the month, I was blogging three times a day. Before this, I blogged one-two times a day. In June, I started my Have You Met series. I also started filming videos on top of blogging. I’ve done at least two a month since then.

blogiversary 03

In July, I reached 1000 followers and went self-hosted. In August and September, I began branching out and doing more beauty and fashion related posts. With our new place, I had a space where I could take proper OOTD posts. In October, I reached 1500 followers. I began a photo challenge to learn more about my DSLR. Since then, it’s been my go-to for taking photos for my blog.

blogiversary 04

In November, I scaled back to posting just once a day instead of twice. I posted a mixture of baking, beauty, lifestyle, photography, and rambles. These are still my main topics I blog about. In December, I continued blogging everyday. I blogged about my birthday, Christmas, and all the summer things. I also reached 2000 followers! In January, I entered the new year completely full of ideas of what I wanted to blog about. I included DIY into my ever growing topics for blogging. This continued into February.

blogiversary 05

Now we’ve made it full circle! I have much a clearer idea about what Life of Angela is about. At first, it was just a place to write about my travels. Now, it’s a collection of thoughts, memories and experiences that I share in my corner of the internet. My small blog has recently just hit 2800 followers!! I have learnt so much during my time blogging. I’ve met many amazing people all around the world. I found so many new interests, and rekindled lots of old interests.

Thanks for being a part of this journey! Here’s to another year of blogging!

February Favourites

Another month gone, time for a post to share my favourites from February. Pretty much all of these are beauty products, but hey, it’s what I’m digging at the moment!

Colour Pop Double Entendre Palette

colour pop double entendre

Another ColourPop palette. I’m straight addicted. I want them all. This one is their neutral everyday palette. I have a nude every palette from Maybelline too, but I prefer this one. There’s definitely less fallout, and the colours are a lot warmer! Plus the packaging is just cuter. I’ve been wearing it everyday since I bought it a week ago.

Becca Shimmering Skin Opal Highlighter

becca highlighter

You may recognize this from the Sephora kit I bought recently. This highlighter had been on my try list for so long, and I’m so happy it didn’t disappoint. It’s so creamy and pretty, and like with the above, I’ve been wearing it everyday since I received it. I love it!

Tarte Shape Tape Concealer

Another thing on my list for ages. The formula for this is again so good! It’s not drying, and doesn’t settle into creases. It offers full coverage, covering up blemishes, uneven skin tone and brightens up my under eye. I will say though, that I got the medium shade which works well. But I sort of wish I got light medium so it brightens more as well as conceals. Plus, as my tan fades when I get into the colder seasons, it may not work as well. But that’s a problem for future Angela. Right now, I am loving this shade and this concealer!

Derma E Vitamin C Concentrated Serum

derma e vitamin c

I got a sample size from a subsciption box last year. I loved it! It smelt delicious and did help to brighten my skin after continued use. I was sad when it ran out and decided to try other products. However, this has been in the back of my mind still, so eventually I caved and bought a full size. I am so happy I did, and use it everyday!

Oasis Water Bottle

water bottle

The only non beauty product. But I’ve been loving this all summer really. It’s important to stay hydrated, but obviously even more when it’s hot. I go through at least two bottles a day, sometimes more as I keep up with doing exercises in the evening. Lately,  I’ve been preferring doing yoga. It’s just too hard to keep doing a high-intensity workout with it so hot. Also, this is the type of water bottle that keeps cold water cold, which is my preferred form of water.

feb favourites

I also thought I’d like to include five of my favourite posts from this past month!

diy - element jars

The cutest DIY I’ve seen on Pinterest! I had a lot of fun creating these.

lipstick collection

Sharing my current lipstick collection. I have a lot of nude colours, but a few pops of bright colours here and there!

Talking about some places I haven’t yet been to in my own backyard. Spoiler alert, they’re all beautiful!

phone cover

Weighing in on the conversation of whether to take photos with your phone, or a DSLR.

closed box

Another beauty post, but this time I try out a sephora kit, which took forever to get!

Anyway, that’s what I’ve been loving this month! Have you tried any of these products? What’s something you’ve been loving this month?

Have You Met Shannon?

Let’s dive right in.

Haaaaaaaave you met Shannon?

Most of us may know her as Kittyp0p, rightly so as that’s the name of her blog. She is based in the US and living with her boyfriend Justin. She blogs about beauty, lifestyle, thoughts and everything really. All the while sharing with us lots of photos and snippets from her daily life.

Here’s a snippet from her About page:

I really just wanted to start this so I could ramble on about stuff that I think strangers would enjoy more than maybe my friends on Facebook and Instagram. I’ve found that if they KNOW you already, they’ll usually just double tap to be nice and scroll on. Hoping to meet and make some new friends here who are interested in my photos and/or what I have to say enough to stop and chat about what I’m posting.

I remember how I first came across Shannon’s blog. A mutual blogging friend by the name of Maggie (who blogs over at Dreaming of Guatemala, and another lovely human being), featured her on her Spotlight Saturday series last August. I was intrigued and went over, and the rest is history!

As always, here are some of my favourite posts of hers:

These two take a trip out to a sunflower field! I would personally love to visit a sunflower field one day, so I’m always completely enthralled when I see photos of one. There’s also a pumpkin patch and all sorts of autumn-y goodness in this post!

As part of birthday celebrations, Shannon (and Justin) take us on a trip to the zoo! It seems like they had such an amazing time (giraffes!) and from all the photos, it’s like we came with them on the trip!

I like makeup reviews on general, but what I really like about Shannon’s reviews are how detailed she is. She rates each lipstick on whether they’re transfer proof, food proof, kiss proof, application, texture, color, longevity, packaging and price!

Look at that coat! Doubling as an OOTD post as well as a little recap post of their trip to a friend’s wedding. I really love how Shannon’s posts are little snippets into her life, with lots of selfies and photos!

You can already see how fun this post is. I loved reading everyone’s Christmas Haul posts, and Shannon’s was no different!

Shannon and Justin recently adopted Fear and Misery. They’re tiny white tree frogs and they’re amazing! I can’t wait to hear more about them.

So, have I convinced you guys to go check out Shannon’s blog yet??

What I’ve Bought Recently (a.k.a. Another Haul)

As always, I like to share with you guys what I’ve bought recently. I like reading/watching hauls from you guys, and frankly I like doing them myself too. So here’s what I’ve bought recently!

Learning Japanese – Hiragana and Katakana Workbooks

japanese workbook

As mentioned in my 2018 Goals, I’ve been learning Japanese through Duolingo. Well, Rory and I have. Fueled by our future trip to Japan, we’ve been enjoying learning Japanese. The app doesn’t help too much with writing the characters though, so we found these workbooks. It’s been a lot of fun using this on top of Duolingo.

Ring Light

I was looking at a few things on Amazon, and this caught my eye. I would love a full size ring light, but those are very expensive. This one is small, handheld, and clips onto my phone easily. I’ve been loving using it to help with lighting when I take my selfies haha!

I have a habit of running through my jeans. Especially in the cooler seasons when I wear them on a daily basis. Due to my job though, they tend to get ripped and worn, and only last a few months. So while thrift shopping, I came across these two blue jeans. I liked that they’re not the usual dark blue colour I have for my jeans. They’re very comfy and I hope will last a while.

Workout Clothes

workout clothes

Again, as part of my 2018 goals, I wanted to work out more regularly. I’ve been doing well with this, but sometimes it’s hard to motivate myself. We went shopping and there was a sale at Cotton On. I loved the high waisted shorts, as I only have long workout pants which I hate using in summer especially. I also decided to get a blue singlet as there was a 2-for-1 deal thing happening.

Black Ballet Flats

Like with jeans, I have a habit of going through ballet flats. They’re fairly cheap, and tend to be seasonal with me. I haven’t bought any new ones this summer so far, so I figured it was time. These are really comfy and I’ve started wearing them almost everyday.

I bought a pink MAC lipstick online, along with a set of six NYX Lingerie mini lippies. I don’t have too big of a range of lipsticks, and these were cheap, so I gave them a go. The MAC one is a pink shade, and the NYX are a mixture of nudes (browns, purples, peach, etc).

Tarte Shape Tape Concealer

tarte concealer

I’ve been wanting to try this concealer for the longest time. I help back for a few reasons, mostly that I couldn’t try find my shade in store. I matched it with my Bare Minerals concealer and went for a medium. It matches my skin tone perfectly and does a good job of covering my undereyes and blemishes. It also dries well and doesn’t leave streaky marks which I really appreciate.

Colour Pop Yes Please Palette

I had been eyeing this up for the longest time. I love the colours! They’re based off ‘magic hour’, so the colours are all bright and golden, and I can’t wait to get into them!

That’s all I’ve bought recently! What have you guys bought lately? Have you tried any of these products?

January Favourites

The first month of 2018! Here are some of the things I’ve been loving this month!

jan favourites

Floral Dress

As some of you may know (as I keep bringing it up), it’s summer here! I’ve been wearing quite a few dresses. I shared a few of my favourite summer outfits a few week back. But the one I keep coming back to is this white and blue floral dress! It’s so sweet and feminine. The skirt is very floaty, and even has pockets! The back is a button up, and sits quite high above my waist, so I like to think it makes me seem taller!

Moon and Star Necklace

I bought this with my voucher from Kikki.K for my birthday. I didn’t know they had jewellery, but they had this sweet delicate necklace. They had a few designs to choose from, but this one called out to me! I’ve been wearing it practically on a daily basis, and I absolutely adore it!

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream (London)

nyx lippie

I mentioned this in my Favourite Makeup Products post a few weeks back, but I really do love it! The formula is so soft and easy to apply, and it dries matte. I adore the brown/mauve colour, and it goes well with a gold/nude eye (which is my go-to). It’s so good!

I’ve read four books so far this month! That’s the most I’ve ever done in a while. I had lots of spare time in the holidays, and also, I was just really into the books I’ve been reading. I’ve jumped around genres, but my favourite so far is definitely Lauren Graham’s book, “Talking As Fast As I Can”. It was so funny and heartwarming to read, especially since I’m a huge fan of Gilmore Girls.

Nerdy Nummies

nerdy nummies

This was in my favourites last month, and it’s back again! This time, I’ve already managed to make a few recipes from it, and I’m planning out the next ones I want to try. I’ve decided that I will have it as a long-term goal to make everything from this book!

jan favourites 02

That’s all my favourites from January! What have you been loving this month?

Also, just a reminder to feel free to leave me any questions which I’ll answer in my Q’n’A when I reach my next milestone! 🙂
