26 Things I’ve Learned in 26 Years

IT’S MY BIRTHDAY! How exciting (for me)! Anyway, I’ve always been fond of these posts/videos, so I wanted to do one myself. I originally was going to film this, but it would probably be really long and I don’t feel up to editing something like that, so a blog post will have to do.

Let’s get into 26 things I’ve learned in my 26 years of living. This is going to be a long post guys.

1. Small Talk Isn’t That Bad

I use to really hate (and be bad at) small talk in general. Now I don’t mind it. It’s nice to have certain topics that you can discuss with anyone. Like the weather, it’s surprising now that I’m older, but I do love discussing the weather!

2. Just Make the Phone Call

Another thing I used to hate, is making phone calls to order something or make an appointment. I still have to rehearse what I’m going to say, but I can now make the phone that dreaded phone call immediately.

3. Enjoy Growing Up with Your Siblings

Those who have siblings, we all have that love/hate thing growing up. But in my experience, you’ll miss them when you’ve moved out and living away from home. You’ll still catch up when you can, but definitely enjoy the time when you’re all living under the same roof.

4. School isn’t forever

It feels like it is, especially when you’re in it. But once you’re out, you’re out for a long time. There’s still university, and other courses, but they’re not as rigidly structured as school. Soon enough, you’ll be out and realize that it’s now been nearly 9 years since you finished high school.

5. Applying for jobs sucks

That’s all I can say on that. It never really gets easier, it’s always tedious, frustrating and a little crushing when you hear no or nothing over and over. All you can do is literally keep applying, and eventually, with a bit of skill and a lot of luck and opportunity, you’ll get it.

6. Travelling across the world is exciting and terrifying

Sounds kind of obvious, but it’s definitely an incredible experience. Going to Peru with Sarah, being in a different culture, lost in translation on the other side of the world, was an amazing and also scary experience. It would be amazing to do something similar again!

7. Walk looking straight ahead

This may sound a little weird, but for the longest time I use to walk looking straight down at the ground. At some point, I started walking with my head up. I don’t know if it’s a confidence thing, but I have crashed into less things since I’ve started looking straight ahead. But I have also tripped on my feet, so maybe I can’t win.

8. Treat your self

This is taken from Parks and Recreation, but the concept isn’t new. Take time to treat yourself. Whether it’s sweets, bingeing a show, buying something new, or even just having a bath. Take time to treat yo’ self!

9. Save!

I know I just said to treat yourself, but at the same time, definitely save for long term! It’s nice to know you’ve got a little nest egg tucked away.

10. Staying in contact gets hard

This can be said for both school and work. It gets harder to stay in contact with people when you don’t see them in a regular setting. It’s sad, but there are some people who you’ll just drift away from given enough time.

11. Explore more locally

Travelling across the world is amazing, but definitely look more into local places as well. Over the past few years, I’ve been to some places around that I have never been to, or didn’t even know existed.

12. Try new things

An oldie but a goodie. Don’t be afraid to try new things. This can include little things like new foods, new shows or music, as well as bigger experiences. I have always been fond of my comfort zone, but I’ve also been working on pushing outside of it.

13. Try old things you once disliked

Once in a while, I’ve decided to try something I didn’t like as a kid (like carrot cake), and realized that I actually really like it! Or that I didn’t hate it as much as I used to. All a part of growing up right?

14. Check your account regularly

Budgeting sort of comes into this too. All this comes with living on your own and having to manage your expenses. Budgeting, and being aware of your money is suddenly even more important. I make a habit to at least check my account once every two days and make sure I know what I’ve been spending my money on.

15. Tattoos don’t hurt that much…and they’re addictive

Something I’ve learnt this past year. I’m getting my third in a few days.

16. You can get too old for things

I’m only 26, but I can’t binge on sweets any more, or spin around without feeling like I’m going to vomit. Don’t get me started on amusement park rides.

17. Get a good pair of shoes

I have one really nice pair of walking shoes. I can literally walk all day in them and my feet feel great. They’ve lasted for years!

18. Enjoy the little things

Not much I need to add on to this. It’s how I tend to focus on the world, I look for the positives. Enjoy the small things in life you know.

19. Settle into a routine

I’m somewhat of a creature of habit. I like planning things for the day for the most part. Whether it’s for school or work, I like to have a routine.

20. Learn how to deal with rejection/failure

I tried to reword this a million times, but essentially the point stands. Everyone is going to have deal with some kind of rejection or failure at some point. Some more than others. You’ll eventually find your own way to process it and hopefully move on from it.

21. Find yourself an organization system

Mine has changed a few times, but I don’t think I could get by without having an organization system in place. Right now, it’s my physical calendar and my phone calendar. I put everything into it, appointments, when I get paid, my work schedule, bills, all of that.

22. Go outside

I have gone days where I haven’t been outside, and even just going into the backyard suddenly has me feeling so much more refreshed. So yeah, make sure you go outside at some point.

23. Photograph everything

This is more for me, but I love having photos to remind me of things I’ve seen, food I’ve eaten, places I’ve been and people I’ve been with. It’s just nice to look back and have all of those photos.

24. Just clean

I’m still learning this, but sometimes you really do need to just suck it up and clean the house. Everything in the house. Kitchen, bathroom, vacuum, mop, declutter, all that dreadful fun.

25. Schedule yearly appointments

I only really started doing this a few years back. I am trying to keep up with all those appointments and check ups that you should do at least once a year.

26. Coffee is amazing

I’m somewhat losing steam here guys, but it’s true. Coffee is an incredible necessity.

There you go, 26 things I’ve learned! It was surprisingly hard to reach this number. But I’m happy with everything  I’ve put down! Some was probably obvious, and others may just relate to me, but I hope you guys enjoyed reading this!

I’m off to celebrate my birthday now!

Leisurely Walks to the Park (and 1800 followers!)

I haven’t done a leisurely walk post in ages! It’s basically where I go for a walk somewhere and stop to take lots of pictures.

Before I get into that, it seems that we’ve reached another little milestone! As you guys may know, I like to acknowledge these. So again, another huge thank you for helping my blog continue grow!!

Alright, back to the walk.

One spring evening, we didn’t feel like staying at home, so we walked to the nearby park. It has huge playgrounds, and a mini carnival was on.

It was a really nice walk around the park. We saw lots of trees with beautiful flowers, and even made a stop to the big pond where all the ducks were. We managed to catch the sunset, so all the photos were taken in that whole ‘magic hour’.

Anyway, here are the pictures I took.

Makeup Collection Price Tag

Hey! So I’ve been wanting to do this for a while. I had way too much fun trying to figure out how much my makeup collection was worth.

I decided to make it into another video, and it ended up being 20 minutes long. That was as short as I could make it. I enjoyed filming and editing it, and I hope it’s fun to watch. You can at least get a really good look at my current makeup collection.

By the way, you guys who have tons of makeup, have you ever sat down and tried to figure out how much it’s worth? It’s pointless, but so much fun.

Anyway, here’s the video.

For you guys who just want to know what the final value is, then skip to the summary at 16.30.

Do you know how much your make up collection is?

Pinspiration – Doodles

I feel like I’m doing these posts more and more, but I am addicted to Pinterest you guys. There’s so much things to look at and get inspired by. One of the things I’ve been eyeing up lately are doodles. I’ve always been fond of bullet journals, but I knew if I tried to make one, I would lose interest and not fill it in. So I’ve been thinking about filling in a journal with doodles instead. That’s what I’ve officially started.

I first wanted a title page, before I dove into my random little doodles.

I am often asked if I use special pens to make the words on my Bible pages look the way they do. While there are special pens and markers to allow you to achieve the same look, I usually don’t use those in my bible. You CAN; I just normally don’t. Below is an example of the lettering I’m talking about. What I am doing in my bible is called hand lettering (or sometimes called faux calligraphy). Hand lettering is different from dip pen calligraphy and brush pen calligraphy. These ARE do... handlettering

I always need something for reference, so I found some fonts that I thought I could copy.

I did my best to try copy some fonts, and then filled the rest of the page with lots of random doodles. All tiny though.

Birthday doodles

I used these party themed doodles to write about reaching 1500 followers. It seemed appropriate.

For my next page, I thought of something else I really like. Coffee!! I wanted to do something in the middle again, as I quite like having that to centre my theme. Gilmore Girls came to mind, so I searched for some quotes. I came across this one, which looked cute, so I used it as my base. Then drew lots of coffee related doodles all around (with references).

Let's Go Somewhere- Mark van Leeuwen

How could I not have a wanderlust page. I looked up a lot of travel quotes, and a lot I liked were too long. This one was short, and to the point. So again, I wrote it in the middle, and had my travel themed doodles all around.

Basically, I’m going to give each page a theme, and find some doodles for inspiration. I’m someone who works better from reference, if you told me to just draw anything, I would have no idea where to start. I need something to base my ideas off of. I plan to eventually start doing doodles based off of ideas in my head, but for now, I’m having a lot of fun!

What do you guys like to doodle?

30 Day Photography Challenge – Days 11-15

Here’s the next installment in my photography challenge!

Day 11 – Something Blue

You guys may recognise this spot as the river near our house. I love going there for photos. I was trying to do that photo effect where you slow the shutter speed so you get a more ‘misty’ photo of the water ripples. You need a tripod for this shot, as any shake will mess up the shot. I did not have a tripod, and this was the best one I could get!

Day 12 – Sunset

I was wanting to get a sunset photo during the past weekend, but we had nonstop rain. One evening in the week, we had sunny weather and we took advantage. We went uphill so we could get a better shot. I took so many photos, and it was hard to narrow down! This is definitely one of my favourites.

Day 13 – Cannot Live Without

something I can't live without

I chose to do another flat lay thing for this one. There’s many things I can’t live without biologically speaking. But for my photo, I went with a different approach. My family, my husband, and me. My thoughts, inspiration, brain, are all important parts of me. Also, I am just so into Winnie The Pooh Quotes lately.

Day 14 – Eyes

This took a surprising amount of time to co-ordinate. However, I’m really happy with how this photo came out! Fun fact, if you look deep into my eyes, you can see the reflection of my arm holding out the camera. As well as my messy office.

Day 15 – Silhouette

It took me the longest time to figure out how to take a silhouette shot. Finally, I realized that you needed to wait a while after sunset where the sky is still bright, but the sun is down. That’s Rory there. I was crouching really low on the ground, so I could get more of his silhouette against the fading sky 🙂

That’s it for this round!

Questions You Never Thought to Ask Tag

**So, first things first. There won’t be a Weekend Review post this weekend cause Rory and I are off on a mini holiday to Auckland, for my sister’s wedding! We’re actually there now, but you guys know I schedule posts in advance 😀 So, I’ll still be online every now and then cause I can’t stay away, but I thought I’d just include this little tidbit so we’re all on the same page. Okay, back to the scheduled post!**

Welcome to a new tag! There doesn’t seem to be any rules to this one except to answer the questions given! The ever amazing Laura over at Lauzies Lifestyle tagged me to do this!

Let’s get into these questions.

  • What game consoles have you had?

A PS2, PS3 and PS4. The first two were technically gifts to my younger brother, but we all used them. The PS4, I co-own with my lovely husband 😀

  • If you could tame any animal into being your pet, what would you pick?

A sloth. I think it would be cool to just have one around. They’re already pretty chill.

  • Are you a sexual person?

This question feels weird to answer. But I would say yes. Not in that I’m thinking about sex all the time, but I do have a good relationship and attitude to it. I think. Now I’m overthinking it…moving on.

  • Foods you despise?

Mushrooms. They have a weird rubbery texture. I can eat them if I have to though.

  • Coolest place you’ve ever visited?

So many places. I still like to go with Machu Picchu as one of my top coolest places I’ve been to.

  • Why did you first start blogging/YouTube?

Cause I wanted to. I wanted a platform of my own where I could talk about my thoughts, memories and experiences. I feel like I’ve discussed this a lot.

  • Favorite item from closet?

It changes a lot. But right now, it’s definitely my overalls.

  • Do you prefer a backpack/big bag/small bag/just wallet?

I prefer a little shoulder bag. Big enough to fit my wallet, keys and phone.

  • Favorite video/computer/phone game?

That is too many options right there. I like many games for many reasons, and some I come back to after not playing for a while. Right now though, I’m not playing any games really. I do enjoy Sims a lot though.

  • One celebrity you would sleep with?

No one. I know I said I kinda consider myself a sexual person in the above question, but it’s personal. I wouldn’t sleep with someone I don’t know very well.

  • Favorite traits for a partner/friend?

Humour. Similar interests.

  • Your personality?

In general, I’m pretty agreeable. I don’t really like conflict. I’m fairly reserved until you get to really know me. I’ve opened up a lot more since I was younger though.

  • When’s the last time you took a risk?

Like a big risk or a small risk? Cause I sometimes stand on things I shouldn’t, like rolly chairs. Just for a bit, cause I’m short and I need to reach something. As for a big risk?…I can’t really think of anything.

  • Fashion trend you would never do?

I don’t really know what any fashion trends are…

  • One physical trait about you that only you notice?

That damn blue dot in the corner of my head. Only cause I try hide it with my hair so not much people know about it.

  • One emotional trait about you that only you notice?

I can get annoyed pretty quickly. But I’m pretty good at not letting it show, and eventually the feeling passes.

  • 3 weird things about you off the top of your head?
  1. I’m finding it harder and harder to come up with these ‘facts’.
  2. I’ve noticed that I’ve picked up quite a few of Rory’s mannerisms
  3. I love waking up an hour early than I need to on weekdays, so I have time to blog before work
  • Favorite cheese?

  • 3 things you use everyday that you need?

Keys, Phone, Glasses

  • Favorite you tubers/actresses/media people?

Again, such a wide selection. I’ll go with my usual picks. Emma Watson, Amy Poehler, Lin Manuel Miranda.

  • One thing that makes you happy everyday?

  • One question you wish you could get an answer to?

What’s it like to be tall?

  • Something about your childhood that affects you till this day?

People pointing out how short I am, or that I wear glasses. I’m well aware of both facts, thanks.

  • What life is all about for you?

Hanging out with the people you love, having fun, and making the most of what you’ve got.

I guess I should nominate some folks too.

DIY – Travel Wall

Hey! So this is kind of a DIY post, I just wanted to share a little project I’ve been working on in my office. It’s not finished yet, but I wanted to show what I’ve done so far.

The idea came to me randomly, I am a fan of scrapbooking, but it requires a lot of time and I get impatient. So I made it a little smaller, I thought why not make a little wall display of the places I’ve been to.

I printed a bunch of maps of the countries I’ve been to, and a bunch of photos from all the places. I made the photos small, so that I could collage them around the maps. Then, I also got some themed cardboard paper, and some sticky notes.

The next step was cutting everything out, which I always enjoy for some unknown reason. Then I chose a themed paper for each country. I stuck the map in the middle, and all around I stuck photos from my time there. I dotted the cities I’d been too, but realized you couldn’t see it from a distance. So I used the sticky notes to write the city name clearer.

Here’s how it looks so far.

travel wall 1

It turned out pretty good! I had no image in my head at first of what the end product would be like. I want to do more on it. I’m not sure what though. I don’t have much memorabilia from my time overseas. All my Peru ones are in a prior scrapbook, and while I do have some tickets, and other things left from trips, I feel like it would get too messy. I don’t know, it’s still a work in progress, but I like having it up in the office.

Any ideas on ways I could extend my little travel wall?

Edit (28/11/17)

Since this post is still really popular I thought I would include an update of my travel wall. I have since included a scratch map, and used that as the centre of my travel wall. As I do more on it, I’ll be sure to update this post again!

30 Day Photography Challenge – Days 6-10

Here are the next five pictures from the Photography Challenge I’m doing!

Day 6 – Obsession

I have obsessed over many things and activities in general, and blogging has helped me find more things to obsess about. So I had to include a photo with a lot of things. Some things I have obsessed over are photography, blogging, stationary, Harry Potter, wedding, makeup, travel, and many aesthetic things in general.

Day 7 – Changes to Come

changes to come

This one was hard for me, cause I had no idea what to do. Lots of things change, seasons, clouds, people, etc. Instead, I tried to make a simple photo. I put in an empty page from my notebook. This is the one that I’m using for doodles. I hope to fill it up with lots of random things soon.

Day 8 – Routine

There were many options for this one too. I am a creature of habit, and I love my routines. I decided to stick with one of my favourite parts of any routine. A delicious breakfast, and my morning coffee.

Day 9 – Someone You Love

Someone I Love

If you weren’t expecting a picture of Rory, then you may be new to my blog. Fun fact, this was the first ever picture I took with my new camera 🙂

Day 10 – Childhood Memory

childhood memory

Again, I was trying to think of what to narrow it down to. I couldn’t do a childhood home or room, since we moved around a million times and I can’t go breaking into any of those old houses. A childhood toy? I think I gave most away. Then I looked at my shelf. Good old Harry Potter. So many memories of reading those books. Sitting in cars, at home, at school, while walking home from school (I used to read this while walking home and it wasn’t the best idea, I bumped into a lot of things). Harry Potter has a special place in my childhood, and now.

That’s it for days 6-10. I’ll post the next five on the 16th!

A Rainy OOTD

I’m really starting to have fun with these OOTD posts. I was hoping to get to wear like a dress or something, but then it rained, so here’s my Plan B outfit.

I fell in love with this poncho when I saw it in the store. It’s adorable. It’s light, so unlike my rain jacket, I can wear it in warmer weather. It wasn’t a cold day, but it was raining decently, so I needed a hood of some kind. I also brought an umbrella, cause I thought that would be cute prop.

Okay, here are the pictures.

Poncho: Amazon Surf

Top: Kmart

Leggings: Farmers

Gumboots: Number 1 Shoes

Umbrella: The Warehouse

What’s your go-to rainy day outfit?
