2018 Goals – 6 Months In

Hoo boy, I have been kind of ignoring these for a while. The last check in I did was in March. I will say that I don’t ever make New Years Resolutions, and now I can kind of see why. I think I work better in short term goals, I normally can push through with motivation, but it’s really hard trying to spread that over a year. I work better with short term goals, as I have a habit of always dropping and picking up new interests.

Okay, let’s get into it.

1) Try a new baking recipe at least once a month – I have two recipe books to choose from, so this seems very doable. Since I have lots of other hobbies I like to spend time on, aiming for at least one a month should be doable.

food collection

I didn’t do any new baking recipes during May, but we were on holiday so I think I can excuse that. Plus most months, I’ve been trying at least two new recipes. So I think I’m still on track for this goal.

2) (Re)Learn new songs on the piano – You may notice there’s no number here. My aim is to learn at least one, I really need to get my rusty piano skills back up to scratch.

3) (Re)Learn new songs on the ukulele – I actually learnt one new song in 2017, but I want to learn more. I really love playing the ukulele and singing along, as terrible as my singing voice is..

I’m stacking these two together because I have done nothing on either. I do love practising music and just messing around on both the piano and uke, but I  don’t. Why? No real reason, I just feel like messing around with some of my many other hobbies. This is what I mean by I always pick up new hobbies. Right now, I’m really into crafts, so I’ve been ignoring music even more. I will leave these on my goals list, cause sometimes I do feel the urge to jam out.

4) Practice photography more – Again, just a vague goal. But I want to take more photos, maybe do more challenges. I want to continue learning more. I don’t doubt I will take more photos this year though.

I had so much fun with this in Japan! There were so much photo ops, and I do feel like I’m getting a better eye with this photo stuff. I would still love to do a photography course at some point.

5) Complete Duolingo course in Japanese – I’ve already started a few weeks back, and it’s been so much fun. Here’s hoping I don’t lose motivation over the year.

Oh dear. So both Rory and I have pretty much dropped this. To the point where I even uninstalled the app. It was fun, but after a while I just couldn’t/didn’t want to keep up with it. I may have to cross this off the list.

6) Do some sort of exercise at least twice a week – running, dance cardio, strength, yoga, just something damn it! Come on Angela, just do it!

So I did really fall off the wagon with this for at least two months there, but I’m getting back into it! I always really enjoy yoga, and I’ve been committing to the 30 Days practice with Adrienne. When I’m finished with it, I plan to try her other ones, or just do a video everyday. So going good with this one!

7) Learn more hairstyles than just a ponytail – I don’t do much with my hair, I just don’t know what to do with it. I need to try some of the many pins I have.

I can kind of do a french braid now, sometimes I throw my hair into a bun. Honestly, I’m fine with just doing that. So, I guess I’m good with this goal.

8) Continue trying more makeup looks  similar to my previous goal, I want to learn to do more with my makeup. Especially with my eyes. It’s fun to play with!

Funny enough, I’ve been heading back into minimal makeup looks. Mostly cause, 5 days a week, I’m getting up at 6 for work, and I can’t be bothered with makeup. On the weekends, I used to get more into it, but since Japan, I like sticking to minimal looks. Sometimes I do just sit in front of the mirror and play around. So I’d say I’m still on track.

9) Try more DIY’s, maybe make a scrapbook, or home decor – I did the travel wall last year, and I’d like to do more! Pinterest will be very helpful with this goal.

I have loved doing more DIYs! It’s been so much fun and I have so much cute little crafts and decor around because of it.

10) Go on holiday overseas – We have plans for Japan which seems like it’ll go through. If something happens though, I hope we still get to go overseas at least once this year.

Done and dusted! We went to Japan, had a great time, and there’s no way we can afford to go overseas again this year!

11) Go on holiday within New Zealand – I always like to say travel locally, so hopefully we can do more of that this year!

Possibly doable. Maybe near the end of the year as spring and summer roll around we can go on a weekend trip somewhere.

12) Keep my journals and planners up to date – I have quite a few journals. One to keep track of my budget, my daily thoughts journal, and my blogging planner. I want to continue to keep them up to date.

Hahaha, no. Even my blogging planner is getting ignored as all I do at home now is cross stitch or do my jigsaw puzzles. So, I want to get back on track with this.

13) Complete a colouring book – I have so many, and none are even close to being finished. Maybe I can finish my small one..

Again, my interests constantly move. At the beginning of the year I may have enjoyed colouring, but now it’s all about the crafts. I will keep this one though, as I may get back into it.

14) Read 30 books – My 2017 Reading challenge was set to 20 books, I finished that and more, so I think I can set my goal a little higher this year!

Another one I’m losing interest in. Last year, I looooved reading so many books. As I keep saying though, now I’m more passionately driven to other hobbies. I will keep trying though, hopefully I can match last year’s number. I’m only 2 books behind schedule according to Goodreads.

15) Watch 15 movies – I mean new ones, not rewatching ones I’ve seen before. 15 is already a lot, but it seems doable.

I’ve already finished this, actually! I watched quite a few movies on the plane ride to and from Japan, so that helped. Maybe I can double it, make it the same as my reading goal.

16) Continue blogging everyday – I love blogging, and having a post up everyday has been so much fun for me. Here’s hoping I can keep this up for 2018!

After my last catch up post, I scaled back a little. I post from Monday to Friday instead of everyday, which I have really been enjoying! It’s nice to give myself a break on the weekend. I have started considering going back further to just three times a week as well.  With my interests spreading wider, I’ve found myself spending less time on my blog.  I still love it, but I’m enjoying spending time offline as well. So I may adjust this to just continuing blogging.

17) Do more collaborations with fellow bloggers – I did a few collabs in 2017, and I’d love to do more?

Yes! I’ve been doing really well with this, I’ve done quite a few collabs this year. I’ve worked with Anni, Sarah, Rossy, Emily, Pamela, and Sara. I’m keen to do more if anyone wants to hit me up!

18) Reach 5000 followers!  I mean, I never thought I’d get over 2000 by the end of 2017, so why not aim high right? Even if I fall short, it’ll still be more followers than I would have imagined I’d get to!

Since taking my break to Japan and scaling back my crazy schedule, I have noticed the numbers slow down. I’m still growing slowly, which I’m still thrilled about. Numbers aren’t everything obviously, but it’s a nice feeling to know that people like my blog enough to follow. I’m sure many are bots, but I’m always meeting more fellow bloggers which is pretty awesome!

So there we go, I’m still on track for some, while others I ignore. Honestly, it doesn’t bother me too much. I have never made resolutions before, and this feels like something I will probably continue to do. I prefer working on short term goals, or maybe I’m just making excuses. Who knows? 🙂

What are your thoughts on new years resolutions and goals? Are you someone who still works on them consistently 6 months in?

Angela.

2018 Goals Round Up #2

Each month I’ve decided to keep myself accountable for those goals/resolutions I made at the beginning of the year. I may also add some monthly goals that I will check up in next month.

1) Try a new baking recipe at least once a month – I have two recipe books to choose from, so this seems very doable. Since I have lots of other hobbies I like to spend time on, aiming for at least one a month should be doable.

I’ve stuck to two food posts this month! The first is the Chocolate Cupcake recipe, which I made into heart shapes for Valentine’s. The second is the Petri Dish Jellies, which requires no baking, but lots of arranging. Both were from my Nerdy Nummies cookbook again!

2) (Re)Learn new songs on the piano – You may notice there’s no number here. My aim is to learn at least one, I really need to get my rusty piano skills back up to scratch.

Did nothing again. There’s so many songs I’ve forgotten though, that I think I’m going to change this to relearn a few old songs, as that seems more plausible

3) (Re)Learn new songs on the ukulele – I actually learnt one new song in 2017, but I want to learn more. I really love playing the ukulele and singing along, as terrible as my singing voice is..

I can still do a few songs on the ukulele, but again, for now, we’re going to focus on relearning some of the old songs and getting them back up to scratch. For now anyway.

4) Practice photography more – Again, just a vague goal. But I want to take more photos, maybe do more challenges. I want to continue learning more. I don’t doubt I will take more photos this year though.

There weren’t really any photo excurions this month, but I did get to mess around with taking close ups of photos which I still find fun. I need to find my user manual though before I try tackle manual mode.

5) Complete Duolingo course in Japanese – I’ve already started a few weeks back, and it’s been so much fun. Here’s hoping I don’t lose motivation over the year.

Still going strong.

6) Do some sort of exercise at least twice a week – running, dance cardio, strength, yoga, just something damn it! Come on Angela, just do it!

Again, the minimum I’ve done this past month was 3 times a week. I wasn’t feeling my best for that week, so I just stuck with changing up some yoga flows. I want to get back into doing some more higher-intensity workouts though as I’m feeling better now.

7) Learn more hairstyles than just a ponytail – I don’t do much with my hair, I just don’t know what to do with it. I need to try some of the many pins I have.

Uh, beyond pinning stuff, I haven’t done much. I did get a curler this past month though and played a bit with it.

8) Continue trying more makeup looks  similar to my previous goal, I want to learn to do more with my makeup. Especially with my eyes. It’s fun to play with!

I always love doing this. I bought quite a few more products this past month, so I was able to play around more.

9) Try more DIY’s, maybe make a scrapbook, or home decor – I did the travel wall last year, and I’d like to do more! Pinterest will be very helpful with this goal.

I did the element jars, which was pretty easy and fun. I do have a few projects on the go, of varying difficulty in terms of DIY, but I’m trying not to set a certain deadline on them as I don’t want to stress myself out. I’m pretty excited for them though! Some are looking good, while others could be better.

10) Go on holiday overseas – We have plans for Japan which seems like it’ll go through. If something happens though, I hope we still get to go overseas at least once this year.

Stay tuned for Japan shenanigans in May.

11) Go on holiday within New Zealand – I always like to say travel locally, so hopefully we can do more of that this year!

Awww. We had to cancel our upcoming trip to Taupo, because I misjudged how much leave I have. It’s not enough for a week to Taupo and then the two weeks to Japan. I am more keen for Japan, and also we’ve paid for flights, so I had to prioritise. Maybe towards the end of the year we can do a spring/summer trip to somewhere.

12) Keep my journals and planners up to date – I have quite a few journals. One to keep track of my budget, my daily thoughts journal, and my blogging planner. I want to continue to keep them up to date.

Yep.

13) Complete a colouring book – I have so many, and none are even close to being finished. Maybe I can finish my small one..

Haha, nope. I’m going to focus on doing my music related goals next month, but maybe the month after I’ll set some more time to colour.

14) Read 30 books – My 2017 Reading challenge was set to 20 books, I finished that and more, so I think I can set my goal a little higher this year!

I only read one book this month. It was just tough to get through, not that it was boring, but it was a lot for me to take in. Here’s hoping next month, I fly through some more lighter books!

15) Watch 15 movies – I mean new ones, not rewatching ones I’ve seen before. 15 is already a lot, but it seems doable.

Surprisingly we’ve watched quite a lot of movies. More so than usual. There was The Room (which required me devoting a post to my thoughts about it), When We First Met (a cute but predictable romcom), and Blades of Glory (Rory put it on and I hadn’t seen it before, again predictable, but funny). All three are new movies I’ve seen, so I’m doing really well on this!

16) Continue blogging everyday – I love blogging, and having a post up everyday has been so much fun for me. Here’s hoping I can keep this up for 2018!

Yep.

17) Do more collaborations with fellow bloggers – I did a few collabs in 2017, and I’d love to do more ?

Yes! I have kept to my one collab a month. This month, I did a baking one with Anni! I do have one in the works with Sarah (but shh, spoilers), and I have others I’m thinking about too.

Actually, I have one in mind, but it requires sending a package to each other. You know those youtube videos where people try food from another country? I thought it would be fun to do that. To send a care package of sorts with lots of classic foods (sweets, savoury, etc) from your home country. So I would send you stuff from NZ, and vice versa, then we can do a post about it. If that appeals to me, let me know in the comments or on my Contact page!

18) Reach 5000 followers!  I mean, I never thought I’d get over 2000 by the end of 2017, so why not aim high right? Even if I fall short, it’ll still be more followers than I would have imagined I’d get to!

We’re nearly up to 2800, so at this rate, 5000 may be doable!

That’s all my goals currently! I want to focus on practicing on my music skills a bit more next month, as I’ve been ignoring those completely these past two months.

How have you been going with your monthly/yearly goals?

2018 Goals Round Up #1

1) Try a new baking recipe at least once a month – I have two recipe books to choose from, so this seems very doable. Since I have lots of other hobbies I like to spend time on, aiming for at least one a month should be doable.

I’ve tried two new recipes this past month! Star Constellation Cookies and Smart Cookies. Both from Nerdy Nummies.

smart cookie

I also have done some baking with older recipes. Like the Apple Cinnamon muffins and Blueberry Crumble muffins. Because I love baking, also I recommend both recipes as they’re delicious!

2) Learn new songs on the piano – You may notice there’s no number here. My aim is to learn at least one, I really need to get my rusty piano skills back up to scratch.

Haha, nope. I have played occasionally, but I’m practising old songs first, trying to get them back up to scratch.

3) Learn new songs on the ukulele – I actually learnt one new song in 2017, but I want to learn more. I really love playing the ukulele and singing along, as terrible as my singing voice is..

You know, I haven’t even touched my ukulele this month..

4) Practice photography more – Again, just a vague goal. But I want to take more photos, maybe do more challenges. I want to continue learning more. I don’t doubt I will take more photos this year though.

I have gone on a few photo excursions this month! Also, I enjoy creating flatlay photos for the blog. I’m getting full use from my DSLR, and I’m definitely learning.

5) Complete Duolingo course in Japanese – I’ve already started a few weeks back, and it’s been so much fun. Here’s hoping I don’t lose motivation over the year.

I have been doing really well on this! I’ve gotten past learning Hiragana and Katakana, and now I’m just revising over and over trying to hammer it into my head. We even bought little workbooks to help us learn how to write it.

6) Do some sort of exercise at least twice a week – running, dance cardio, strength, yoga, just something damn it! Come on Angela, just do it!

I have consistently exercised at least 3 times a week this past month! Most weeks I’ve done 4-5, with 3 being the least. Those are really good stats for me! I alternate between arm & shoulders, core & cardio, lower body and legs, and sometimes yoga. I’ve been trying some basic yoga videos, and I’ve learnt that I’m really not flexible. These are all home workouts. Youtube is an amazing place.

7) Learn more hairstyles than just a ponytail I don’t do much with my hair, I just don’t know what to do with it. I need to try some of the many pins I have.

Instead of a ponytail, sometimes I do a bun. Not a very good one, it’s very messy, but I could say that’s on purpose. I once tried two buns, but I don’t know how I feel about that. I’ve been also trying to get better at braiding. I normally just do the ends of my hair, but I want to try french braiding. So some progress there. I tried a few Pinterest tutorials but I was so lost.

8) Continue trying more makeup looks  similar to my previous goal, I want to learn to do more with my makeup. Especially with my eyes. It’s fun to play with!

I’ve been doing quite a few of these! I’m planning on dedicating a post to some of my favourite looks I’ve made these past few months. I’m still learning what to do, but I’m having fun experimenting.

9) Try more DIY’s, maybe make a scrapbook, or home decor – I did the travel wall last year, and I’d like to do more! Pinterest will be very helpful with this goal.

I shared my scrapbook I made, but that was a few years ago. I’ve got a few of these lined up. One is coming up tomorrow about what I did with my little craft jars!

scrapbook 1

10) Go on holiday overseas We have plans for Japan which seems like it’ll go through. If something happens though, I hope we still get to go overseas at least once this year.

Japan is on the way! We have bought tickets and booked places to stay! Now I’m just looking at activities, transportation and all the fun stuff.

11) Go on holiday within New Zealand – I always like to say travel locally, so hopefully we can do more of that this year!

We’ve booked a little stay at a resort in Taupo in March for our first wedding anniversary! They’ve got natural hot pools there, so it should be a fun time!

12) Keep my journals and planners up to date I have quite a few journals. One to keep track of my budget, my daily thoughts journal, and my blogging planner. I want to continue to keep them up to date.

Mostly I’ve been good with this. The latest it takes me to update my notebooks is on the weekend when it comes to keeping track of budgets.

13) Complete a colouring book – I have so many, and none are even close to being finished. Maybe I can finish my small one..

Haven’t even looked at them this month…

14) Read 30 books My 2017 Reading challenge was set to 20 books, I finished that and more, so I think I can set my goal a little higher this year!

I’ve read four books already! I’m so happy with how I’m going with these. It also helps that all four books have been so entertaining so far. I’ve read Playing For Keeps, The Hate U Give, Talking As Fast As I Can and One of Us is Lying.

15) Watch 15 moviesI mean new ones, not rewatching ones I’ve seen before. 15 is already a lot, but it seems doable.

I’ve rewatched a few Harry Potter movies over the festive season. But we did go to the cinema and watch The Greatest Showman. I watched Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist on Netflix the other day, which was fun. Nothing mindblowing though. I also watched Don Jon, which was silly and fun, because New Jersey accents strongly remind me of Jersey Shore.  So that means I’ve watched 2 new movies so far this year. Should I do random little movie reviews, like with the books I read? Maybe.

16) Continue blogging everyday – I love blogging, and having a post up everyday has been so much fun for me. Here’s hoping I can keep this up for 2018!

Yep! Have had a post go up everyday this month!

17) Do more collaborations with fellow bloggers I did a few collabs in 2017, and I’d love to do more ?

I have done one already! With the lovely Pamela again. This time we shared some book recommendations with you all! I hope to do one at least every month!

18) Reach 5000 followers!  I mean, I never thought I’d get over 2000 by the end of 2017, so why not aim high right? Even if I fall short, it’ll still be more followers than I would have imagined I’d get to!

At the beginning of January I was at around 2200, now at the end of January I’ve just passed 2500. That’s insane! Maybe 5000 isn’t an unreachable amount after all?..

That’s all my goals currently! I have no monthly goals or plans for next month, I think these are enough to focus on for now.

How have you been going with your monthly/yearly goals?

Hello 2018! (500th Post)

What better way to start off a brand new year than with my 500th post! Good lord I write a lot. Anyway, it’s 2018! So I wanted to make a post saying hello to the new year, and maybe making some goals and plans. Otherwise called, New Year’s Resolutions. I have never been great at this, but if I blog about them, maybe I’ll do better this time around.

To make things more fun, I’m going to make 18 goals for 2018.

  1. Try a new baking recipe at least once a month – I have two recipe books to choose from, so this seems very doable. Since I have lots of other hobbies I like to spend time on, aiming for at least one a month should be doable.
  2. Learn new songs on the piano – You may notice there’s no number here. My aim is to learn at least one, I really need to get my rusty piano skills back up to scratch

  7. Learn more hairstyles than just a ponytail – I don’t do much with my hair, I just don’t know what to do with it. I need to try some of the many pins I have.
  8. Continue trying more makeup looks – similar to my previous goal, I want to learn to do more with my makeup. Especially with my eyes. It’s fun to play with!
  9. Try more DIY’s, maybe make a scrapbook, or home decor – I did the travel wall last year, and I’d like to do more! Pinterest will be very helpful with this goal.

That last one is just wishful thinking on my part. Otherwise I think all of these are doable, they just require constant work and motivation. I plan to blog about how I’m getting on with these throughout the year to hopefully keep me on track 🙂

June Goals – Looking Back

Well hey guys, guess what Angela found in her trash folder. I made goals for the month of June but I couldn’t find a good time to post it, so eventually I trashed it.

So let’s pull this out and have a look cause I actually did pretty well.

June Personal Goals

  • Read at least two books

I did do this! I finished After You in the beginning of June. Then went on to read Buffering and The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck

Image result for buffering book Image result for the subtle art of not giving a f book

  • Bake more

I baked three out of the four weeks in June, that’s one more than in May.

  • Finish more colouring pages

I got one more done.

20170618_102812

  • Save up more for upcoming tattoo

My tattoo (which I’m getting today) is bigger than the previous one, so obviously would cost more. Since this is not a ‘necessary’ cost, I felt I should work more on saving specifically for the tattoo. I did.

  • See more open homes, maybe make another offer?

Yes we did, and we made multiple offers, but they all fell through.

  • Complete another month’s worth of Beginner Workouts on Spotebi

Not even a little. In May I did this no problem, in June I didn’t even try which I feel really bad about.

  • Drink more water in general, eat more fruits/veggies

To be honest, it was the same as in May. So I have a few fruits and veggies during the week, but I could have more. I also only get up to 3 or 4 glasses of water most days which isn’t great either.

June Blog Goals

  • Reach 750 followers

Yep.

  • Milestone post for 600 and 700 followers.

I missed the 600, but I did one for 700 and 800 so I think I can count it.

  • Consistently read other’s blogs

Still doing well on that. I feel like I’ve kept on top of all the blogs I follow most days.

  • Reach 20,000 all time views, and 5000 visitors

Yep.

All time views

  • Beat May monthly views and daily views

Yep.

may monthly views

May daily views

That was all the June goals I had. Maybe I’ll try do one for July. It’ll probably be similar to these current goals but just upping the ante, so to speak 🙂

Angela.

30 Days of Blogging Challenge – Day 17

We’re at Day 17 of the Challenge. I’m doing this with my blogging buddies Maggie and Cheila, so check out their responses to the prompts too!

Day 17 is about the Goals for my blog.

I have a few goals in mind for Life of Angela.

Banner

Here are my current ones:

  • Currently, I want to keep up with daily blogging. I haven’t missed a single day since I started, I’m now also up to two or three posts a day, which is crazy.
  • I will see through the 30 Day Blogging Challenge with the ever amazing Maggie and Cheila 🙂
  • I want to finish my A-Z Challenge of TV shows, it doesn’t get as much traffic as my other posts. but I’m committed to finishing it. Once I complete it I can give myself a pat on the back, cause I’m starting to struggle with some letters XD But it’s a challenge! And I will also see it through.
  • I want to continue doing the Weekly Photo Challenges through Daily Post. I love finding out the new theme, and trying to come up with my own interpretation or spin on it.
  • I also want to stick with doing weekly TBT posts, it’s fun to look back and decide which story I want to share with you guys.
  • Keep up to date with reading all of your posts. This is where I lose track of time the most. I get so into reading your posts and stories, that I get annoyed that I have to head back to work, or that I have some errand to do. But it’s important to enjoy life too. I’m starting to find that balance.

Here are some future goals:

  • I have never been one to aim for many followers, but this blog has surpassed every expectation I had. I thought it would be nice to reach 100, and I’m already past 400 at a few months in! I like the roundness of the number 1000. But that feels far away. For now, I’m enjoying where my blog is at, and the community that I’m a part of 🙂
  • Go self-hosted. I have been considering this for a while. However, I am trying to keep a tight lid on money because of our current plans. I am hoping towards the end of the year though, I might consider making the change. I will definitely let you guys know if I do, and give myself time to work it all out.
  • Videos. I’ve posted a few videos on here through YouTube. But I like the idea of one day making videos, on top of posts. I don’t think I would ever go full vlogger, because I am more comfortable typing on a computer, than speaking in front of a camera. But I would like to explore that avenue.

I’m happy to see where my blog will go. I’m still having so much fun, and I hope to keep carrying that momentum!

Thanks for reading all!
