I can’t quite wrap my head around this, but apparently there is now over 3000 followers on this random little blog! You may know that I have a habit of celebrating each milestone I hit, and it’s just cause it’s literally so incredible!! I celebrated my blogiversary only a few weeks ago. I’ve been blogging for just over a year and in that time my blog has grown more than I could have ever expected.

I love blogging so much and I just get so much joy out of it doing it. The community I’ve become a part of is so wonderful. I enjoy having this creative outlet to try out new things, explore, and share bits and piece of my life. It does take up a decent bit of my time, and I continue to work on balancing my blogging world and everyday world, but I have no regrets!

On a more soppy note, it’s made me feel more connected with all my lovely blogging friends around the world. I’ve made real friendships through this hobby, as well as reigniting passions in my many and never-ending interests.

So I want to end this on a big thank you again to everyone in the blogging community! I’d also like to share this link from Huffington Post UK, where I was contacted by the author to use my DIY – Travel Scrapbook (Peru Adventures) in their article about what to do with your holiday photos. It’s definitely something that I never expected to come out of blogging, and even though it’s just a snippet, it makes me even more proud of my blog and motivated to keep going!

Thanks for all the online love friends!! ❤

One Year of Blogging! (+2800 followers!)

As the title says, today, I have been blogging for a whole year! I posted my first post Hi, on March 6 last year. To celebrate, I bought a little celebratory cupcake from my favourite bakery! So scattered in this post, enjoy this photoshoot of my and my cupcake.

blogiversary 01

For this post, I thought it would be fun to go through a highlight reel of sorts of my blog!

When I started blogging, I talked about my recent travel adventures, first to Sydney, and then to Peru. In April, I branched out into talking about my life, more specifically my recent wedding! I started baking again, and since then, I’ve never stopped.

blogiversary 02

In May, I reached 500 followers. I started the A-Z Challenge series, where I talked about a television series I liked, starting from A and ending with Z. I also began sharing my weekends with all of you, and continued making my blog more personal.

My blogging hit an extreme during this month. For the whole of the month, I was blogging three times a day. Before this, I blogged one-two times a day. In June, I started my Have You Met series. I also started filming videos on top of blogging. I’ve done at least two a month since then.

blogiversary 03

In July, I reached 1000 followers and went self-hosted. In August and September, I began branching out and doing more beauty and fashion related posts. With our new place, I had a space where I could take proper OOTD posts. In October, I reached 1500 followers. I began a photo challenge to learn more about my DSLR. Since then, it’s been my go-to for taking photos for my blog.

blogiversary 04

In November, I scaled back to posting just once a day instead of twice. I posted a mixture of baking, beauty, lifestyle, photography, and rambles. These are still my main topics I blog about. In December, I continued blogging everyday. I blogged about my birthday, Christmas, and all the summer things. I also reached 2000 followers! In January, I entered the new year completely full of ideas of what I wanted to blog about. I included DIY into my ever growing topics for blogging. This continued into February.

blogiversary 05

Now we’ve made it full circle! I have much a clearer idea about what Life of Angela is about. At first, it was just a place to write about my travels. Now, it’s a collection of thoughts, memories and experiences that I share in my corner of the internet. My small blog has recently just hit 2800 followers!! I have learnt so much during my time blogging. I’ve met many amazing people all around the world. I found so many new interests, and rekindled lots of old interests.

Thanks for being a part of this journey! Here’s to another year of blogging!

2600 Q’n’A

Hello all! Thank you for all the questions you asked me during my 2500 celebration post! As promised, I stored up questions until reaching 2600, which we now have! You guys are all amazing!

Here are your questions, and my answers!

Kate from Ankhor You asked:

  • What is the one place you really want to travel to?

Japan was on my list for the longest time, so I’m beyond excited that’s becoming a reality. The other place I really want to see is Iceland. But it’s so damn expensive (and long) for me to get there! One day..

Cheila from Pink For Days asked:

  • Do you have funny student stories?

Funny things happen throughout the day, but I often forget about them. I need to write them down, so I have stories to tell.

  • What baby names do you like but probably won’t use?

I’ve always liked the names Sophie and Ellie, but there’s another name I like more. As for boys, Nathan and Jake are names I like, but not one that I’ll probably use. We have both agreed on preferred names for our future kids though hehe.

  • What marriage advice do you have?

Live together first. I know some people don’t live together until they’re married, but that doesn’t make sense to me. Find out if you guys can spend everyday together in the same four walls first, before committing to do it for life.

  • If you went back to college what would you study?

I’ve always wanted to return to uni and continue my Education studies. It was my favourite subject I’ve ever studied, and I would love to complete a Masters in it!

uni 03

Margaret from The Word asked:

  • If there’s one thing you could change about your blog what would it be?

Honestly, every now and then I wish I’d come up with a cooler name for my blog. The Life of Angela is cool and all, but it’s pretty straightforward. Otherwise, I’m pretty happy with how my blog is going!

  • What is your most cherished childhood memory?

Ah so many. Mostly though, our summer holiday trips down to the South Island. We went every two years from when I was a baby till I was 22. It was a huge part of my life growing up and it was always fun to have all the family together.

  • Have you ever wanted to change your name, and if so what would you change it to?

I think I’m too used to Angela to consider another name. I’ve always been happy with it. It’s easy to remember and spell, and still not too common.

Amelia from Amelia in Hull asked:

  • Who was your first follower?

Ah man, I really don’t remember. That was so long ago, and I think some of my earliest followers are now inactive. I do remember that Courtney was definitely in the first 5 that followed me though, and we’re both still pretty active on here 🙂

  • What are your top blogging tips?

The usual favourite tips, like engaging. You really can’t go wrong with constantly engaging with your audience, as well as branching out to find new blogs with similar interests. That, and sticking to a regular schedule. Those two are always my tips, and they work really well for me. I would also say, read your post over at least once before publishing, to make sure it’s really polished, and also break up the words with pictures. It’s easier on the eyes (at least for me haha!)

life of angela (2)

Shannon from Kittyp0p asked:

  • If you could have any animal as a pet (tame or wild), which would you choose?

A turtle. Or a sloth. No reason for either, they just seem cool.

Caz from Invisibly Me asked:

  • What was your favourite game as a child?

Sardines was a big favourite, especially when you’ve got a big group. Do you guys know that game? It’s like opposite hide and seek. One person hides, and everyone else tries to find them. Once you find that person, you join them in the hiding spot. Sooner or later, it’s just one person trying to find everyone. It’s also funny cause you have to try fit 7 or 8 people into one hiding spot and stay there till the last person finds you. Hilarity always ensued.

angela 10

Maria from What is Maria asked:

  • What is the most inspiring book you’ve ever read?

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck. That was so much fun. Yes Please was another good one.

  • What would you consider to be the best and the worst parts of blogging?

The best part is having a creative outlet and getting to be part of a wonderful and supportive community. I’ve always said that and I definitely still believe it. Worst parts are just how it can sometimes take over my life a little. I’m definitely better at making sure that I spend time away from it now, but I used to spend pretty much all my time thinking about my blog and planning posts. I feel like I’ve hit a good balance now.

Chanelle from Chanelle Hayley asked:

  • Since we’re in summer and this one’s a scorcher, what is your favourite summer treat?

Those Fruju Sorbet iceblocks. You’ll know them Chanelle, but I’m not sure others will. They’re the best iceblocks!

  • And, what is your favourite thing about summer?

The longer days. I love that the sun is out till 9pm. It feels like you have more time in the day to do things, even after a day of work!

evening walk 2

Azra from Simple Serenity asked:

  • What is your favorite season?

All have their benefits, but spring and summer are definitely more preferred.

  • What are your top three favorite things right now (food, drinks, activities, makeup… whatever :))

So many choices. I can’t narrow them down. So I’ll answer them all.

Top 3 Food – Ice cream, pancakes, fries

Top 3 Drinks – Coffee, Soda, Chocolate Milk

Top 3 Activities – Blogging, Baking, Jigsaw Puzzles

Top 3 Makeup – NYX Soft Matte, Tarte Shape Tape Concealer (I just bought it!), Bare Minerals Foundation

favourite products 2

Jasmin from Ugh Mango asked:

  • What is your favourite kids movie?

The Incredibles.

Nina from Comfy Kittea asked:

  • Are there any weird food combinations do you really enjoy?

This is something Rory introduced me to. Ramen noodles on toast. Yes it sounds weird, but it’s actually really delicious and makes the meal more filling.

That was all the questions!! Thank you again for always supporting me, and I can’t believe I’m now at 2600! This community is seriously the best and makes blogging all the more fun! I hope you guys got to learn a bit more about me!

2500 Followers! Time for a Q’n’A (again)

Heeeey! So guess what guys! We’ve reached another milestone, but as this one is a pretty cool round number of 2500, I wanted to write a specific post just about it. Rather than squeezing it in one of my pre-planned posts. That does mean, I will have another post coming out later today, so keep an eye out!

First of all, THANK YOU!! I had to capitalise and bold that, as I can’t say it enough. So I’ll scream it. Seriously though, I’ve never been prouder of my blog than I have recently. I have been loving all the posts I’m writing. You guys have been really cool about my more thought-filled posts like my recent one about My Relationship With Tattoos and Positive Thinking, which I went back and forth on actually publishing for a while. So, thank you all for sticking around and hanging with me on my blog!

Anyway, as the title says, I thought it would be cool to do another Q’n’A. I know I’ve already done these before (twice now), but they’re always fun and I figure it’s a nice way for you guys to get to know me more! I’ll be doing it in blog form instead of video form this time though. As for when I’m going to do it, I’ll aim for it to be up by the time I reach 2600. Then I’ll try think of something big to do at 3000. I’m thinking another blog party, but I was also saving that for when I reach my blogiversary. We’ll save it for whatever comes first.

So, feel free to ask me questions about anything. I’ll do my best to answer them all, so whether you have blog-related questions, serious questions, silly questions, or anything in between, ask away!

I’ll include a bit about this Q’n’A at the end of each post I write until I reach the next milestone, so hopefully I’ll have a fair few questions to answer for you guys!

Little Update & 1700 Followers

faceless selfie

First off, thank you for 1700 followers! I’m still so pleased to see that my blog continues to grow and you guys are enjoying my rambles.

Second, today is officially my 8th month since I published my first post. All these milestones just keep piling on top of each other which is really exciting!

Third, I have a few updates I’ve been meaning to say, but I couldn’t figure out how to just squeeze it into unrelated posts. None of this is big, but I want to at least talk about it. I’ve somewhat put my Have You Met series on hold. Not for lack of bloggers that I want to talk about, but those posts in particular take an extra bit of planning, that I haven’t really had time for lately.

Fourth, I’ve been pulling back from blogging a little these past two months, spending more time in my real world than my online world. I’m still on here everyday, but I’m not posting up to three times a day, cause I realize now that was crazy 😀 Since going back to posting just once a day (I’ll still occasionally do two if I have something special to add like today), I’ve been able to get back that perfect balance between blogging and life. I can create the content I want, stay up to date with my reader, and have time to myself. It’s been really good.

So like I said, nothing major, just a few updates about the old blog. Thank you again for 1700!

If you’re new, say hi in the comments! If you’ve been here for a while, also say hi! I like talking with you guys 🙂

The Best Planner (1600 Followers!)

So I have two things to talk about in this post. The first is a bit overdue, but thank you for 1600 followers!! As always I get very excited when I reach a new milestone on my blog! Especially since this happened while I was having issues with my blog the past few days, it’s extra nice to know that so many of you guys are interested in my ramblings.

Onto the second thing, my new planner!!

Isn’t it adorable? I love the crazy rainbow pastel colours, as well as what it says. Something wonderful is going to happen! Always a good thought to have.

They have a monthly planner section spread over two pages, so it’s like a calendar. I use this to write down what posts I publish. Then I use the notes section on the side to colour code each ‘category’ I cover. By the way, I have a lot of categories, which I have been meaning to tidy up forever. I also include monthly stats, and any thoughts I have.

Then after all the months, they have a week by week section. Each page covers a week. I use it to again note each post I do, but with a little summary of each one.

Lately, I’ve also begun to note down daily stats again. It’s just fun to see how they change from day to day.

Finally, at the back they have a whole bunch of extra stuff. First is this Rate Your Year grid. They let you colour code each square, and then you fill it in as the year goes by. I can’t wait to see the colour extravaganza it will be at the end of next year.

There’s also a To-Do list, and a Not To-Do list, which I plan to fill with just random nonsense!

There’s also a bunch of grids which maybe I can use to try do some bullet journal things? Or more doodles. I’m open to suggestions.

Finally, it comes with stickers. They’re just regular planner stickers, but they’re still fun. But I might go hunt down for some extra stickers to fill up my planner with.

Yeah, that’s my new planner! I’m loving it so much already, and I can’t wait to fill it in with all my blogging related planning!

If you’re interested in the planner yourself, they’re made by Orange Circle Studio. You can find more of their planners on their site!

Well, well, well. Look who’s got 1500 followers! I mean, it happened a few days back, and I kept meaning to write a thank you/celebration post, but I put it off cause I had other posts I was working on. But I knew if I kept putting it off, I’d get to it in a month, so I’m sitting down now and writing this.

Thank you so much to everyone who engages with me and my weird little blog. I keep calling it little, but it has grown so much more than I could have imagined. I’ve been active on my blog since March (even though I made it last July), so Life of Angela has only been around for 7 months really. I still get surprised each time I hit a new milestone, and I’m touched that people like what I’m writing (also a lot of random company/business blogs for whatever reason).

When I started blogging in March, I wrote a tiny little intro post. I didn’t want to dive in with my (many) pre-planned travel posts, I wanted to introduce myself first. I didn’t expect it to get noticed, but it did. It got like 4 likes. 4!! I know that seems small, but it was a lot more than I expected…which was zero. Then after a few weeks, my posts got to 10 likes and I just lost my mind all over again. Imagine how I felt when I got a notification that someone actually now follows my blog.  I still feel that way now. I may not screech each time I get a follow or a like, but I do bounce around in my seat and sometimes high five myself (is that a little sad..nah).

Life of Angela

My blog has continued to grow more than I could have expected. It’s also taught me a lot about skills that I haven’t pursued in years, as I now have a platform to share my thoughts and experiences on these. It’s made me feel more sociable and connected with the world. I’m so glad I started blogging 🙂

Here’s a little doodle I tried to do, expect a Pinspiration post on doodles at some point.

Thanks for 1500 all!

Celebrate All The Milestones!

Hey! So, I mentioned a while back that I wanted to do another celebratory post about follower milestones. Back in July was my last one, where we had the biggest Blog Party the world has ever seen. Okay, maybe it wasn’t that insane, but it was pretty crazy! 429 comments!! My notification feed was non-stop and it was hard for me to keep up. It was amazing.

Since then, I went self hosted, and my engagement rate slowed down a tad. As someone who was starting to celebrate reaching milestones quite often, this dampened my enthusiasm a little. The numbers have still been steadily rising though. When I reached 1100, I thought, “I should do a celebratory post!”, but I didn’t. Then I reached 1200, 1300, and most recently 1400. As I write this, my count stands at 1451. So over the weekend, I was determined to do something fun to celebrate and show my gratitude for all you lovely people who read my ramblings!

I was going to do a House Tour, but it’s still pretty messy. But after reading some posts, I got inspired by doing this “50 Questions You’ve Never Been Asked Tag“. I decided since it was a huge number, I would break it up by answering all over the house. In video form!! So you get a sneek peek at our place, and hopefully learn more about me.

Here it is!

I had the most fun I have ever had filming a video! It was also super planned out, I wrote out all the questions, and decided which room or spot to film it in. The whole process was confusing and hilarious, and Rory kept finding me everywhere, tripod in one hand, notebook in the other, and phone in mouth cause I was out of hands.

In fact, out of all the bonus footage, I decided to make a little bloopers video out of it, which makes me laugh at least!

As fun as all this was, I really just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who supports, reads, likes, comments and follows me on my blog! I still consider myself a newbie, I’m still learning as I go, but this whole blogging business has been so incredible! I have never felt more connected with like minded people all over the world, have friends in so many timezones, and spend so much time writing, filming, taking photos, and having so many new experiences!

Thanks for being a part of my blogging journey, lovely people!

What 6 Months of Blogging Has Taught Me

Man it took ages to think of a title. I went through so many variation of 6 months titles.

So, on March 6, I hit publish on my first ever post. It was simply entitled Hi. It was very short and was my intro to the blogging world. I wanted to talk about my recent travels, but felt that an intro should be my very first post. I didn’t expect anything to happen, but the next day I got a notification that someone had liked my post. I was really happy! Then as I kept posting, a few more likes came, and then a follow. I was beyond ecstatic. I had no idea that blogging was about to become a huge part of my life.

Since then, I’ve been blogging daily. I post at least twice a day, sometimes three (when I’m feeling crazy). I’ve met so many amazing people around the world, I’ve become invested in the lives of so many of you, and through this blog, I’ve been supported and encouraged in trying lots of new things.

So without further rambling, here’s six things I’ve learned in my past six months of blogging.

It’s addictive

Seriously. Blogging is addictive. It ends up in the back of your mind almost all the time. Not always in a bad way. You think about blogging ideas, about posts you’ve read from others, about how your latest post it doing. If you’re anything like me, it becomes a passion as well as a hobby, and you can’t remember what you did in your spare time before blogging.

Good grief

It’s time consuming

Writing posts, reading posts, taking or editing pictures, this all takes a lot of time. I’ve learned to set times up for myself during the day when to do all these. Otherwise I find myself with no extra time for anything else I want to do. I write up most posts for the week during the weekend. I read a bit before work, and set aside an hour after work to read posts. Then I keep working on the unfinished posts.

You’ll meet so many friends

In the past 6 months, I’ve made so many friends around the world. As someone who only normally has a small pocket of friends, it’s nice to know that I have such a huge community of online friends. Some I now also know on Instagram, Facebook or What’s App. I feel lucky to have met so many amazing people 🙂

1000 Party Collage

You’ll try new things

In terms of thinking up blog posts, blocks will come up often. Sometimes, to overcome it, it’s led me to try some different and new things. This has led me to baking new things, trying out new makeup/beauty things, sharing more selfies, and basically making me feel more confident in myself and my abilities. To the point where I wanted to invest some money in this endeavour so I could keep expanding my blogging.

You don’t need a niche

This is something I realized early on and stuck with. Some blogs have a niche and that’s cool, that works for them. For me, I want to talk about whatever I want to talk about. I talk about a whole bunch of stuff, I don’t want to be limited to a certain topic. So I’ll talk about a holiday, then random thoughts on a subject, then share a favourite tv show. This helps in keeping up with my daily schedule as well.

Don’t stress the numbers

This is something I keep learning about. Some days, you get lots of engagement, others you don’t. I used to focus on the posts I was putting out on these days, thinking what got more views, likes, comments. Some days I got lots, other days I had less. I spent too much energy trying to figure it out, trying to work out why this post did so much better that this one. So, I just kept writing what I was enjoying, because I literally couldn’t figure out this magic formula. Daily stats will just do what they want, don’t fixate on them.

daily stats

So that’s all I wanted to share. I really can’t remember any other project or hobby affecting my life as much as blogging has. Both in good and maybe not-so-good ways (I am never not on WordPress). But it is such a big part of my life, and most of that is due to you guys. I’m so happy to be a part of this online community and I can’t wait to see where my blog has landed in another 6 months!
