30 Day Photography Challenge Wrap Up

If you’ve been following me for all of last month, every five days you may have noticed that I posted snippets from a photography challenge I decided to do. It was so much fun, and I loved getting to interpret each prompt. The challenge also led me to multiple photo excursions, where I would spend up to an hour just snapping away, and learning more about my new camera.

Now let’s get to all the photos. Get ready.

30 Day Photography Challenge – Days 26-30

We’ve reached the end of this photography challenge. Here’s the final five photos.

Day 26 – Close Up

close up

I have a lot of close up photos of food and objects. I’ve shared a few in this challenge already, so I wanted to try something else. I saw something on Pinterest where ‘photo-ception’ was happening. This is what came out of my experimentation. A close up of my face on my phone camera, and the rest of me holding said phone.

Day 27 – Celebration

celebration

The most recent celebration for me was my sister’s wedding, so obviously for this prompt, I was going to choose a photo from that event. I decided on the shot of the rings, cause then it’s clear what the celebration is about.

Day 28 – Flowers

flowers

Again from waiheke, but I can’t help it. The gardens were amazing, and I had to show off more of the lavender field. I took so many photos of the flowers, this was one of my favourites.

Day 29 – Black & White

black and white

If you’ve seen my latest baking post, then you may recognize these cookies. While messing around with photos for the post, I played with filters. I ended up not using this black and white one, but I really like it’s spooky effect. So at least I can show it in this challenge!

Day 30 – Self Portrait

self portrait

Another self portrait to round off this challenge. I couldn’t think of anything creative or different to do, so I took a regular camera selfie with my tripod. I took it in the sunroom, cause I like the background with the white brick. You may recognize it from my current profile picture.

So yeah, that’s all the photos from this challenge! I want to do an official wrap up post for this whole challenge in a few days. So you guys can see all the photos in one post! That being said, I have really enjoyed doing this, and I plan to do another one at a later time. If you guys have interest in photography, definitely give this challenge a go! You don’t need to post it, but just use the prompts for inspiration 🙂

30 Day Photography Challenge Days 21-25

I’m up to the last batches of this challenge! Here’s the next five.

Day 21 – Faceless Self Portrait

faceless selfie

This was another early photo I took. I wanted a photo of me holding the camera, and the flash popped up. I really like how it came out though. You can’t see my face at all, since I’m holding it to my face. It fits into this prompt pretty well.

Day 22 – Inspirational

inspirational

One evening, I turned around and saw the some impressive cloud formations. It was a pretty inspirational sight. I also realize that I have an insane number of pictures of clouds.

Day 23 – Patterns

pattern

I was trying to think of what I could do for patterns. There are some cool wall patterns I was considering, when I went through food photos. I love how restaurants display food. So much effort goes into it, and it always looks amazing! I count this as a pattern, since it’s repeated, technically 🙂

Day 24 – Animal

animal

Ducks are one of my favourite animals. They’re just cute. I was lucky enough to get close to this little duck and snap a photo of him/her.

Day 25 – Strangers

strangers

I don’t really have a photo of strangers. I’m not in the habit of taking photos of people I don’t know. That being said, I do have a lot of scenery photos, and sometimes other people are in it. So here’s my strangers photo.

30 Day Photography Challenge – Days 16-20

Here’s the next five photos in the photography challenge!

Day 16 – A Good Habit

good habit

This was taken a few days ago in Waiheke. I like to go for walks. Sure, it may be because it gives me a lot of photo opportunities, but it’s a form of exercise. It’s one I enjoy and often do. I would constitute this as a good habit.

Day 17 – Technology

technology

When my brain struggles for photo ideas, I keep going to flat lays. What can I say, they’re fun and aesthetically pleasing to look at. I gave this one a shot, incorporating technology I use on a daily basis. That’s my phone, iPod, laptop, and I would count a pen as a tool of technology as well. Just the old school kind!

Day 18 – Your Shoes

shoes

This prompt is pretty straightforward. I gotta take a photo of my shoes. So I grabbed all of them and lay them out. I was considering wearing a pair, and then taking a photo that way, but I was happier with this one.

Day 19 – Something You Want

something you want

So this could be a photo of many things. Food, makeup, other material things. Instead, I went with another Waiheke photo. I want to travel, to be on holiday with loved ones, experience different things and see new places. I wish I could do it full time, but alas I cannot.

Day 20 – In My Bag

in my bag

Another straightforward prompt. Also a post I did a while ago. However maybe I should do an updated one, cause I carry different things around now. This is my Moana Road blue satchel bag. I use it for work. On any given work day, this is what you’ll probably find in my bag. Book, pens, keys, water bottle, phone, wallet, ipod and then a few care products. Lip balm, concealer (for touch ups) and a hairbrush.

30 Day Photography Challenge – Days 11-15

Here’s the next installment in my photography challenge!

Day 11 – Something Blue

blue

You guys may recognise this spot as the river near our house. I love going there for photos. I was trying to do that photo effect where you slow the shutter speed so you get a more ‘misty’ photo of the water ripples. You need a tripod for this shot, as any shake will mess up the shot. I did not have a tripod, and this was the best one I could get!

Day 12 – Sunset

sunset

I was wanting to get a sunset photo during the past weekend, but we had nonstop rain. One evening in the week, we had sunny weather and we took advantage. We went uphill so we could get a better shot. I took so many photos, and it was hard to narrow down! This is definitely one of my favourites.

Day 13 – Cannot Live Without

something I can't live without

I chose to do another flat lay thing for this one. There’s many things I can’t live without biologically speaking. But for my photo, I went with a different approach. My family, my husband, and me. My thoughts, inspiration, brain, are all important parts of me. Also, I am just so into Winnie The Pooh Quotes lately.

Day 14 – Eyes

eyes

This took a surprising amount of time to co-ordinate. However, I’m really happy with how this photo came out! Fun fact, if you look deep into my eyes, you can see the reflection of my arm holding out the camera. As well as my messy office.

Day 15 – Silhouette

silhouette1

It took me the longest time to figure out how to take a silhouette shot. Finally, I realized that you needed to wait a while after sunset where the sky is still bright, but the sun is down. That’s Rory there. I was crouching really low on the ground, so I could get more of his silhouette against the fading sky 🙂

That’s it for this round!

30 Day Photography Challenge – Days 6-10

Here are the next five pictures from the Photography Challenge I’m doing!

Day 6 – Obsession

obsession

I have obsessed over many things and activities in general, and blogging has helped me find more things to obsess about. So I had to include a photo with a lot of things. Some things I have obsessed over are photography, blogging, stationary, Harry Potter, wedding, makeup, travel, and many aesthetic things in general.

Day 7 – Changes to Come

changes to come

This one was hard for me, cause I had no idea what to do. Lots of things change, seasons, clouds, people, etc. Instead, I tried to make a simple photo. I put in an empty page from my notebook. This is the one that I’m using for doodles. I hope to fill it up with lots of random things soon.

Day 8 – Routine

routine

There were many options for this one too. I am a creature of habit, and I love my routines. I decided to stick with one of my favourite parts of any routine. A delicious breakfast, and my morning coffee.

Day 9 – Someone You Love

Someone I Love

If you weren’t expecting a picture of Rory, then you may be new to my blog. Fun fact, this was the first ever picture I took with my new camera 🙂

Day 10 – Childhood Memory

childhood memory

Again, I was trying to think of what to narrow it down to. I couldn’t do a childhood home or room, since we moved around a million times and I can’t go breaking into any of those old houses. A childhood toy? I think I gave most away. Then I looked at my shelf. Good old Harry Potter. So many memories of reading those books. Sitting in cars, at home, at school, while walking home from school (I used to read this while walking home and it wasn’t the best idea, I bumped into a lot of things). Harry Potter has a special place in my childhood, and now.

That’s it for days 6-10. I’ll post the next five on the 16th!

30 Day Photography Challenge – Days 1-5

So as you guys know, I have a brand new camera which I’ve been having so much fun testing out! I want to work on my photography skills, so I found a photography challenge on Pinterest which I’ve decided to try!

Here are the first five days of the challenge.

Day 1 – Self Portrait

DSC_0030

You may have seen this in  my latest OOTD post, but this is technically the first selfie or ‘self portrait’ I took with my camera!

Day 2 – What You Wore

what I wore

On a Monday morning to work, I wore my favourite overalls and striped shirt. It got a bit chilly, so I did throw on a blue cardi as well.

Day 3 – Clouds

clouds

There was a lot of picks for this one, clouds are just so much fun to look up at.

Day 4 – Something Green

green

Again, the river provides some great photo opportunities. I’m glad it’s so close to our new place!

Day 5 – After Dark

after dark

Seeing a bright full moon behind clouds just seemed like a good photo opportunity. Reminds me of something supernatural, or maybe I’ve been watching Buffy too much lately. Who knows? 😀

That’s it for Days 1-5. I’ll post the next five on the 11th!

Pinspiration – Flat Lays

If you can’t tell yet, I’ve been spending a lot of time on Pinterest lately. Perhaps too much. There’s just so much creativity on there, it’s both inspiring and frustrating in a weird way. I’m talking about a good old flat lay. Like with my previous Pinspiration post, Selfies Recreations, I wanted to try my hand at trying to recreate some of these amazing photos. After a while, I tried to do some on my own, and they weren’t half bad. If you follow me on Instagram, you would have seen a few of these already.

Here we go.

Hello September! Floral flatlay with scrabble letters

Mine

So, I could have also done Hello September, but it’s already near the end of the month, that I felt Hello Spring was more appropriate. Plus, I had lots of fake flowers and petals that I wanted to play with. The colours all felt very ‘spring’ so it seemed like a better fit. I also had to include my cactus, because they just needed to be there.

I don’t have a marble backdrop anywhere. But our kitchen bench is white wood, so I felt it got the closest look out of what I had. I like how all the products are spaced and kind of lying around randomly. But they don’t look random, you know? They feel well placed, and there’s lots of aesthetic pieces like plants, fake lashes etc. I don’t have fake lashes, but I like the look of the plants, and the little white stones. I actually couldn’t remember why I had lots of wishstones lying around, but they came in handy!

Again, with the marble. It’s a similar flatlay to the previous one, but the layout is different. It’s more straight and lined up, rather than an organized mess. Personally, I like the ones more where they’re all at different angles, but this was fun to play with!

After this, I just kept playing around. I grabbed different props, went to different surfaces, and just experimented. Here’s some of my favourites! There is a lot of them.

IMG_6387

A flat lay with just the eye makeup.

IMG_6391

Just the face makeup, and the brushes.

20170924_093329

Just the brushes. This time they’re on a marble placemat. It’s small though, I can’t fit too much on it for a flat lay.

IMG_6458

Looking down. This one took the longest to organise. I had to get the tripod, a chair, kick everything out of the way in our messy living room…I would love to get it even higher, but I’d be scared for my camera.

20170924_093119

Blogger aesthetic flat lay! Random plants and all.

Another one, but this time on our wooden dining table!

And again! But this time no laptop, but two notebooks! My coffee was gone in this photo.

IMG_6396

Another notebook and glasses one, back at the kitchen.

maybelline

My latest makeup splurges.

Thinking about budgets.

All in all, I’m really happy with all of these! I will be keeping them in my portfolio and bring them out if I want to add images, but I’m not sure what to add!

How do you guys feel about flat lays? Have you tried them much? Did you like any of the ones in this post?

Instagram in September

October is upon us, it’s the start of a new month, so once again, I’m looking back through my top Instagram photos from September.

Let’s get into it!

Makara Peak. Posted on September 2.  I really like sharing old travel photos, even from local places.  Being in nature is always enjoyable, especially when I get to go high up. I love looking down and enjoying the view. Also, this day was just a fun hike (I’ve shared it before on the blog too!), I got to spend the afternoon with Rory just enjoying our surroundings.

Rarangi Beach. Posted on September 8. Like with before, this is an old travel photo. This time, it’s blue instead of green themed. The closer we get to warmer weather, the more excited I get about the upcoming summer! It also just reminds me of lots of past family holidays and good times.

Lake

Clear Lake. Posted on September 9. If I’m being honest, I don’t exactly remember where this is. I know it was on a family holiday growing up, and it was somewhere in the South Island. It’s super pretty though. It’s so still and serene. I should try figure out where this is.

Selfie. Posted on September 19. This comes from my Selfie Recreations post and has since become my favourite photo of me. You can probably see it to the right on the sidebar 🙂

aug22-158.jpg

Lyall Bay Beach. Posted on September 21. I posted a lot of beach photos it seems, but I can’t help it! They’re so pretty and relaxing to look at! This beach is the one I went to a lot growing up.  You can see my brother there, this does show the age of the photo. It was taken back in 2009.

That’s all for this month’s Instagram look back! I’m still loving being able to share pictures, the only part I don’t like about it is how the feed works now. Instead of just showing them consecutively, it puts ‘higher’ liked or recommend posts, so I feel like I miss some posts.. That  being said, I probably will still keep using it, cause it’s just so much fun!

Let me know which photo is your favourite 🙂

Angela.
