Day 18 – A Movie That Disappointed You The Most

Suicide Squad

I really wanted to like this movie. The trailer looked fun, the aesthetic and costumes all looked great, and it starred some really good actors. But..it just fell flat. To me anyway.

It started off really good! We got to see backstories of each of the villains, and how they ended up in Belle Reve, which is a maximum security prison where all our superheros send the bad guys they defeat. But as the film went on, everything felt muddled. I felt confused as to  what they were meant to be doing, and why should we care about it? I also feel like they featured the Joker a lot in the trailer, when he was just a minor character in the film. He literally was in it for like only 10 minutes. As for Enchantress, I’m not really sure what to think of her. Sure she looked cool, but that was it. For me this movie had a lot of style, but not any substance. I mean yes, it’s a superhero movie, it doesn’t need to have a loot of meat to it, but this just left me bored..and confused.

However, it did have an amazing soundtrack!!

But overall, I came out of the movie feeling disappointed, the movie was kind of forgetful for me. I had to read the wiki of the plot to even remember what was happening.

What do you guys think of Suicide Squad?

Day 5 – A Favourite Drama Movie

This does delve into the superhero genre I love so much, but I consider this particular film, much more drama than traditional superhero. I also talked about this in my March Favourites.

Basically this is the last X-Men film chronologically speaking. It’s also the last one with Wolverine a.k.a. Logan, a.k.a. Hugh Jackman.  The film takes place in 2029, no new mutants have been born, and all the current ones are dying out. Logan now takes on odd jobs as a driver and looks after Charles (Professer X, played by the awesome Patrick Stewart) who is suffering from an unknown brain disease that causes him to lose control of his telepathic abilities. Then, they come across a young girl named Laura (Dafne Keen) who is very similar to Logan, claws and all. She’s being chased by some folks, and Logan and Charles end up taking her under their wing. That’s all I’ll say for now.

This movie was pretty visceral. It was R18 after all. There’s cursing, stabbing, fighting and decapitation. It’s also the best superhero film I’ve seen for a while. While yes there’s action, the bulk of the film’s greatness for me lies in the relationships. The one between Charles and Logan, and Logan and Laura in particular. It’s emotional, heartbreaking and uplifting, which you often don’t hear about too much in the superhero genre.

Have you guys seen Logan?

What’s your favourite drama?

Jessica Jones

Jessica Jones

A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, and here we are at J. Did you sing the Alphabet song when you first read the beginning? I did. Anyway, J is for Jessica Jones! We’re nearly halfway through the alphabet now.

Sidenote, I love this image they used for the show. It’s so cool. As you can see, this is yet another Netflix backed show. What can I say, they have some amazing shows. You guys may or may not know, that I am a fan of superhero shows. I watched Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl, but I lost interest. Jessica Jones is only one season so far, so it still holds my interest. Plus, it’s pretty damn good.
