DIY – Crayon Art

Welcome to another little DIY project. I saw lots of these on Pinterest, and there were lots of variations. You can attach the crayons to the canvas to make it ‘drip’, or you can melt the crayon directly on the canvas. I chose to do the latter. Whichever you choose, it always ends up looking like a piece of watercolour art which is amazing!

All you need to do this is crayons, a hairdryer and a canvas.

what you need

Here’s a timelapse video of how I made mine.

That’s all you need to do! I’m excited to try do more with other colours. I ended up sticking to colours that reminded me of ‘space’. So blues, purples, blacks, and a bit of red. I do wish I thought this through more and actually put something to protect my desk from the melted crayon bits that went everywhere. They were really hard to clean up. Anyway, here’s my final piece!

It definitely looks like watercolour. I love how it looks, and I really can’t wait to try make more!

Have you ever tried this DIY before?

  1. I love the way it turned out! I actually made one around three to four years ago but I don’t know where it is. I’m thinking of making a new one. šŸ™‚ x

  2. Ooh nice! Stop tempting me into these mad projects! I bought more pencil crayons at weekend as decided need a black crayon for a bullet journal. Crayons were only Ā£1 which guess equivalent to $1. From everything Ā£1 shop guess they have wax crayons too. I have a hair dryer but canvas prob more expensive.

    1. Haha, I’d been tempted by this since I first saw it on Pinterest! It’s so much fun! The small canvas i used was only around $4. It wasn’t too expensive and it was definitely worth it! I say give it a go šŸ˜„

    1. It really is! It does make a huge mess though haha! There is also the drip variation, where you stick the crayons to the canvas and aim the hairdryer at it so that the wax ‘drips’ down. I also want to try that one šŸ™‚

  3. I love this. I would love to try it, the hanging them in line and letting them drip kind. I definitely need to place some sort of plastic sheet or an old tray under the canvas, though. It looks like it could be really messy if youā€™re as clumsy as me. I love the colors ā¤ļø

    1. I want to try it that way as well. It definitely seems like it would be more of a controlled mess, rather than splattering crayon wax everywhere šŸ™‚ Having a sheet or a tray underneath is definitely a good idea!
